Why does Tanigawa do this? He's already taking his sweet time, so he might as well communicate with his audience every now and then. If he decided he was done with the series he could just announce it. If not, a quick, "hey everyone, I'm working really hard on the next book! Look forward to it!" type thing every now and then would be so much better both for him and us. You lose fans by just closing off like this. It's not like he's working night and day trying to meet a deadline, the dude has time. He's unnecessarily secretive, this is like the only picture of him on the internet.
