Not exactly. In standard it felt like everyone was encouraging yuya more than anything. He basically just copied his dad's style over and over and everyone lapped it up like dogs. He had his own insecurities, sure. But, he was far too complacent in his usual pattern. Hell, EGAO mode probably wouldn't have even shown up in 39 if he wasn't such a weak-minded bitch.
Here, no one gave him the time of day until he started to cater to the brutality of the stadium. Then, the fact that he decided to go with his own method in spite of that (spoken of in 73~? and acted on in 79) is a genuinely big shift from what he was doing before. There's a certain artistic integrity to his style that was lacking before.
It's a genuine shift from how he handled things prior that shows greater strength of character and more reliability as a protagonist than yuya had in previous arcs.

Those last 3 episodes were great. Not just Yusei vs. Jack but everything surrounding it. Everyone not being able to do what they really want since they were too attached to each other to leave Neo Domino at that point but they all decide to go for it in the end.

Synchro Arc is a plane circling the destination. The plot is about Yuya, his counterparts, Yuzu, her counterparts, and alternate dimensions and shit, but for some reason the writers decided to spend literally one third of the entire series in a dimension that's entirely tertiary to the dimensions around it

I would contest that and say Selena, Yuya, Fusion, Dennis, and Kurosaki (although this one felt weirdly low key until 82) also grew as characters in this arc.
Certainly it spent too much time here specifically, but to say nothing happened would be entirely incorrect. If nothing else, it provided excellent world building and a definitive contrast of perspective to Yuya's own style of entertaining that wasn't resolved within a singular duel.

What was infuriating is that there was no interaction between the Signers even after a decade. No one contacted each other, they just lived their separate lives. There wasn't Carly being Jack's manager, with him yelling at her after discovering his opponent in the Grand Prix was Rua of all people. You didn't have Crow and Kiryu working together with the orphans in Satisfaction Town.
Most criminally, you didn't have Ruka scolding Yusei when he tries to take off a tie while he's wearing a stuffy suit, holding a single black rose as you see a passengers get off a plane from Germany, and him smiling slightly when a red-head steps into the terminal.
