Monogatari is a really good show though. Either way its sales have been steadily declining with each subsequent season so I wouldn't exactly call it a rival. I've seen a lot of Japanese fans shitpost about Love Live in relation to it, however. Every time I look at Yaraon there's all these 'LOVE LIVE IS FINISHED' style comments.
Osomatsu is obviously not going to bypass its sales (67k for second season) but it would be cool if it at least bypassed Shingeki or Fate/Zero (52k). Not holding my breath, though.

I think it's more of the fact that these are characters a lot of us care about and have grown attached to. It sounds stupid but it's upsetting when you see your favorite characters in unfavorable situations because you want to see your favorites happy.
