So has anyone managed to see this yet? if so what can i expect when i finally hunt it down?

I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard you can expect no monologues, great directing and character animation, hyper-realistic CG backgrounds, a terrifying first encounter with Kiss-shot and an hour long short movie that ends before any of the actual action happens, but who watches monogatari for the action scenes anyway.
>>
According to Japs it's a massive disappointment that doesn't even look movie quality let alone like one that was in production for like 10 years.
Nothing even happens in the first movie even for how short it is.

>>136426462
so who is right?
>>
>>136426462
I have seen it in the international premiere in Hamburg.

It's a fantastic looking and directed piece of animation. There are some changes to the other Monogatari series like different character design, art style and the fact there aren't any monologues (which only make the flash cards even more effective in my opinion).
>>
>>136426462
Don't listen to this anon, he's talking out of his ass. Where the fuck was it ever said that Kizu has been in production for 10 years?
>>
If you like Meme: he is back in alls his glory. Kind of superhuman to be honest. Araragi is also hot as hell. In fact, everyone is.
>>
>>136426565
Does the animation look better than shitty TV 24fps garbage?

>no monologues

How are they going to make the rest of the movie work like this? There's quite a bit of important monologuing in the latter half of the novel.
>>
>>
man, where are all these shots coming from?
>>
>>136426830
Like thousand of other novel adaptations did it succeesful in the past.
All the "that is important and this scene is essential" is often quite bullshit for a movie.

Actually, most adaptations of novels contain some sort of narration or monologue.

At least 3/4 of that "thousand" you mention have.
>>
>>136427061
>most adaptations of novels

Not really. There is the rule "show, don't tell".

And that's just off the top of my head. There's far more well-received novel-to-film adaptations that contain a heavy amount of monologuing than no form of narration whatsoever.

Also the rule "show, don't tell" was originally applied for writing and has been around before film was even popularized or commercialized.

Good to hear. I'm a little suspect of all the 3D I've seen in the trailers, but the character animation does look great. The CG seems mostly relegated to backgrounds and doesn't look too cheap, so maybe it's not so bad. I am a fan of mixed media anyway.

1.5 months left for my theater. I'm excited!

Show, don't tell result is basically taking movie making rules over to novels.

It's engaging and visually pretty stylish, but it fucking ends just as you really get into it

They clearly made the movie already and then split it up into 3 parts
>>
>>136427777
>movie making rules

No, you're completely misconstruing what the stylistic choice of "show, don't tell" implies. Its far more prevelant in writing and has nothing to do with monolgue. As a matter of fact, a monologue can actually "do".

Of course I'm talking to someone who is clearly ignorant but I don't expect anyone on /a/ to have the slightest idea of what writing styles entail.

That nonsense.

Novels which follow the "Show, don’t tell" mind set don't have any form of narration or just in a vey reduced form.

Read some Hemingway.
>>
I thought "show, don't tell" was a vague guideline like "keep it simple, stupid" and applies to every form of media

>One hour long
That makes me want to wait for all 3 to get a BR release. The nearest theater is an hour away but there will be a lot of traffic. The parts will probably be released only like a few months apart, r-right?
It will probably be 2 years until we're able to watch the Kizu BDs
2018 is looking to be great year, we'll get Kizu, Cyberpunk, and maybe even 4.44!
>>
>>136428300
>The parts will probably be released only like a few months apart
part 2 is summer
part 1 bd will probably be out just after part 2 is out
>>
>>136428190
Pretty much. Though sometimes the only way for a character to convey their emotions is by saying them. Then again, you can follow 'show, don't tell' by revealing those emotions via dialogue, like the one between Shinobu and Kanbaru in Owari.
>>
>>136428360
I'd imagine it'll be out shortly before part 2 so people who missed the theater showing can still see the first part and get hyped.
>>
>>136427873
8-9 months
>>
>>136427388
Being a narrator is different than having inner monologues.

How? The story is not that long when I read it.

It's the guide line of focus on the "how" (describing why the moon is beautiful) and not about the "what" ("The moon was beautiful this night").
