you miss the point of humanity being fundamentally different then every other animal species. take for example gazelles living in the savannah, in order to survive from predators all a gazelle has to do is be faster then the slowest/oldest gazelles in the group so that the lion does not catch it. Now imagine a group of gazelles with basic human intelligence. Instead of constantly living their lives in fear what the gazelles should do is gather the biggest and strongest gazelles with the biggest horns and surround the weaker/female gazelles in the group and simply move around that way, when the lion comes instead of fleeing the strongest gazelles simply try to gore the lion with their horns, some of them may die or be injured but its fine as long as they gore the lion. After being gored the lion will go back to its abode and instead of being satisfied with that the gazelles will follow the lion home, and attack it while it is injured and then stomp its cubs to death, the loss of life of the gazelles is acceptable as long as the predator and its young are removed. It is an incredibly foolish point of view for humans to simply accept that a predator that they can deal with is just an acceptable sacrafice of life. That's the whole point of the shiki hunt at the end of the series.
