Why is it that the only jets you see in most shows these days are either F-22s or F-35s?

Why not have some variety like superior Russian jets?

>assumes that the guy they go bayonet have never seen a spear before
Fun historical fact: in real world warfare, the guys with swords had a well-documented tendence to fucking understimate the bayonet, believing it "a poormans' spear" and tended to fight against bayonets as if they were spears (while truth is, bayonet and spear fighting have several key differences - spear is better at long range, bayonet is much better than spear at short range; sword guys used to close range as they do with spears and get predictably asskicked). Late XIX - early XX century warfare proved them wrong. Those guys making the same mistake makes actually sense.

Russia didn't focus on air superiority as much as the US did. They decided that rather than fight fire with fire, they'd just hard counter.
Most of their effort went into anti-air, and now they've got radar jammers and SAMs that really worry the Pentagon.

You don't need the best plane when you can blind the other guy.

Canards are actually a fairly recent (well, recent in aircraft developement cycle sense) thing in sukhois.

First seen in the Su-27M prototypes in 1988, canards have only been applied to Su-30MKI, Su-30SM and Su-34 from the current production aircraft roster.

And Pavel Sukhoi died in 1975 so he didn't really have much to do with the canards on current Sukhois.
>>
>>136336515
And Su-33 which I conveniently forgot.
>>
>>136335864
I just graduated from Moscow University of Aviation so I can say they are like Apple vs Android. Russian planes do have certain problems, in the same time they have certain superiorities.

Having only low technology and materials people had co come up with great engineering solutions and features such as omnidirectional thrust vectoring which allows absolutely unmatched maneuvrability. Amerifat specialists are paid so high so american economy won't handle paying them to actually think. That's why f-35 is shit but costed more than entire NASA budget of all time.

However Russians have no idea how to make planes ecology friendly (or maybe just don't care), they are not so fuel efficient, and they are more expensive to repair and support in the lonl run because they are lowtech pushed to the maximum. Also no stealth technology gimmick, as if anyone needed it anyway.

The biggest problem ith them really is that getting new SUs seems like a good deal, but in the long run they will require a lot of service and repairs and they will soom become moe expensive than eurofighters and F-16s because of lowtech materials.

MEC can't help it not rip its wings if you touch elevators when it goes over 750 km/h when doras can comfortably pull 12gs on a 850 km/h dive. But I mean, I could just close off the compressor and lose a bunch of power so the insides of my plane doesn't become a mini-Auschwitz oven, or I can just roll in a Griffon spit and destroy everything.

in all honesty even if it was wood it wouldn't matter, as long as it provided enough structural stability. No modern fighter uses any kind of gun any more, and it doesn't matter what your plane's made of if a missile hits it, it's toast.

I'd say that would involve burgers throwing a gajillion missiles and drones until the other side runs out of SAM and the runways are filled with craters. Nobody can match 700 bases and their logistics.
Also I heard that our Russian planes are more troublesome such as the Flankers needing air conditioned bunker all year and the AF prefers their Hornets. Still none crashed so far in 8 years, wonder how India managed to crash theirs on almost monthly basis.

Not really. Drakens were doing cobras half a century ago. And F-18 is just as agile as any Sukhoi.

Besides, agility matters shit in modern combat. Actually, it mattered shit in late WW2 already. Zeros were far more agile than planes they fought with and that sure helped them.

Russian planes are junk. Only poor shitholes banned from buying western weapons buy them.

Stop Ivan.

Thrust vectoring is literally useless in combat. The first thing Raptor pilots learned is to never use it in combat. It only makes you waste speed and with modern missiles and their 360 offboresight that's certain death.

And stealth is such a gimmick that Russians and Chinese are doing everything they could to get their own stealth plane.

>What is energy fighting

This is why the F6F wrecked the A6M's shit: It climbed faster and dived quicker, even if it can't roll or turn as quickly.

Since most modern jets have a thrust to weight of over 1 already, energy fighting doesn't matter nearly as much, since you can climb at 90 degrees, and your jet would still never stall. What mattered more is maneuverability, so you can outturn the nose of an enemy fighter to prevent a missile lock, or to roll and turn well enough to dodge a missile.

They can't make planes go much faster yet because they lost their industry and don't have up to date materials and technology. Right now they can only use old alloys and don't even have blisk.

USSR was giving workplaces to adopted shitholes that then left and took the facilities with them. And then there was insane Eltzin and default and other shit.

>Not mentioning the fact that the Zeros have a flaw in their engine that the americans exploited
Nigga, they got themselves a Zero and took apart that shit before they even figured how to fight them.

There's a flaw in the engine that causes insufficient fuel to be pumped into the engine when the plane banks to the right, which stalls the engine. They later exploited that by telling their pilots, when caught with a Zero on their ass, to bank hard to the right.

They had to fucking get their hands on a fucking Zero to figure out that trying to dogfight a plane made to dogfight in a their heavier planes that can't turn as quickly is a bad idea.

F-22 detects them at 200km and can fire missiles at 100km.

Su-35 detects F-22 at 50km and can fire missiles at 20km.

there's no point in making a jet fighter that much faster, because it costs a lot and you don't get much benefit. Dogfighting takes place around mach 1 for accurate weapons discharge, and they need some speed for intercepting. Provided your surveillence is half decent, there's no point pouring money into a really tricky design to get you no actual benefit. It's not "they can't make planes go faster", it is "they won't bother"

Also im not taking about just fuel. Im taking about the missile range. Cause the missile is more likely solid fuel and not liquid. Also a larger ground based missile can have more fuel and the launcher can have a bigger radar unlike a jet with it jammed into the nose cone.

There's a point where more fuel don't give you anything. And it depends on specific inpulse and air breathing engines have specific impulse A LOT more than that of rocket engine.

You do know that beyond 200km it's only effective against not maneuvering subsonic targets right?

And that while L-band can detect stealth planes at reasonable ranges you won't get a lock until less than 40km right?
