Rei only treated Shinji badly in the beginning, it was one of the points of Rei's development that she (probably) felt in love with Shinji. Asuka on the other hand was either tsun or just a complete bitch, even if she liked him (in the director's cut).
Misato always treated him well and tried to be a parental figure, but she almost literally fucked up.

You realize that Shinji tried to help and understand Asuka some times in the show, right? after Arael mind rape he tried to reach her with legit good intentions but she still rejected him. Before that she also reject him a bunch of times. Not only with Shinji, but she also rejected Hikari's good intentions, and she was supposed to be Hikari's good friend.
Asuka basically rejects everyone, she's not mentally apt to have mutual understanding with anyone.
I get she's your waifu and you love her, but don't deny her flaws and try to make your shipping fantasies real. No shipping shit in Eva becomes canon in the end, only Shinji/Tang.
In hindsight, I think Asuka was more messed up than Shinji. Shinji would have probably been something resembling okay if he lived in a regular world where human lives didn't depend on his performance and he wasn't isolated from everyone else because of that. Maybe he wouldn't be super happy, but he'd have an uneventful life without the looming threat of a complete breakdown.
Asuka, though, there are people who are loud, rude, obnoxious psychos that are desperate to justify their own existence in real life, and they are all sloppy hot messes.

She locked herself into solitude just like Shinji did, and she at least tried to stick with it, rejecting people instead of becoming a whining puppy desperate for affection. Of course it's not so easy and some sort of relationship developed between them as it always happens with time. Won't say it's romantic, but I can't blame people who do. Shinji and Asuka suffer from the same issues, but come at it from two different directions. Asuka pushes others away, while Shinji moves away from others himself. In the real world, Shinji would just end up a spineless Salaryman who goes straight home afterwork and does fuck all all day. Asuka would probably be able to excel to at least some extent just from the fact that extroversion is seen in a better light, but her interpersonal relationships would be shit, and she'd likewise end up alone at home.

Shinji was having positive development in the until Bardiel's episode. Then his depression really started to kick in ever harder and to be fair, after that he never got a fucking break from anything.
Asuka on the other hand always had negative development, she started as confident and strong teenage girl but that was only a mask and it was breaking more and more as the show was going on. She was always loud, messy and obnoxious but when shit started hitting the fan with her (even small things earlier episodes, hurting her pride) she'd isolate herself and reject everyone.
