It's when a medium contains massive amounts of gore and or violence that doesn't help advance the plot in any way whatsoever. If something is edgy it's just for shock value.

Edgy means that a greater amount of violence and sex than the normal baseline for a genre are used as the selling point of a work above all else. I feel like that borders more on parody. I'm honestly not sure whether it's good edge or not, but I still enjoy reading it. At the very least, it does show off a more realistic outcome for what would happen when super powered highschoolers who've been shunned by society for it go all out against each other.The later untranslated chapters do get real edgy though, which I felt didn't come off as well as it is currently.
