I was thinking of something along the lines of Celestial King dress as well. Maybe instead of summoning all 12 gold + however many silver keys, Lucy is able to use the unlimited magic power to fuse them into one key: the King's key. It doesn't exist, but I doubt there is someone with enough magic power to have been able to attempt such a thing before. The FT wiki says that one condition to summon the King is to completely destroy a key, making that key's spirit unable to come back to the Mage world ever again; it could be the same thing to make the King's key, but with more spirits lost.

That'd be a helpful set up for either her turning good later, or for a later back stab that doesn't feel totally like Fairy Tail being complete idiots. Second to set up some future complication down the line. I don't know what that would be, but it's a possibility.
