If you payed any attention EoE there's a pretty clear case on why its bad.
Instrumentality is just a fake-version of returning to the womb, which is only the desire of a child scared to face life and the challenges it brings.

Instrumentality was a mistake, leave things how they are and take control of your life. Don't impose your childish will to escape on others, thats pretty much the point of the story regarding Instrumentality.
Fearing things like death and pain are just symptomatic of immaturity and unwillingness to grow, Misato pretty much proves this.Not to mention its the very existence of death that makes us appreciate life, without that factor you just have an empty and meandering existence with no gratitude and desire to explore.

This really. There's a whole lot of meaning to finding yourself that comes out of all the existential parts of the show, plus Rei's side of the story.
There's the whole more down to earth half of people's problems where everyone is fucking using each other, tearing off other peoples' emotional limbs just to use them as crutches with which to hobble along.
Gendo fucking everyone and tossing them away, tossing Rei away, tossing Shinji away. Misato fucking people to remind herself that she exists. Asuka tearing other people's ego's down to inflate her own while Shinji uses her body to just get off like she's somesuper hotfast food for his dick and ego.
But its all for not, because it them trying to manage their shit is just putting off actually helping themselves, and they just dig themselves deeper and deeper holes. Then when they run out of people they just drown magnificently like Asuka, Ritsuko, and Shinji do in the show.
