Has there ever been a single more obvious crutch for sloppy shitty writing than this fucking thing right here? It started out with a few interesting abilities; copying techniques, sped-up perception, and some illusion abilities that required eye contact... fast forward and it can literally do absolutely anything the plot requires it to do whenever the story finds itself in a corner that Kishimoto has no idea how to write himself out of. Even to the point that it can re-write reality. Fuck, it doesn't even need to be your eye, or even in an eye socket to work. You can just pick them up off the ground, slap them anywhere on your body, and they're ready to correct whatever plot point Kishi didn't bother to think through in the first place because writing is hard.

As for sharingan gundum suits and the rest of the mangekyou abilities they were simple garbage.
That's what happens when you don't think through plot, power levels and scale of things in your story or drag shit for longer than you have initially planned. The area of big rooftop was good enough for Third vs Orochimaru fight, and they were considered the top of the top at the beginning. Madara's strongest attack was able to completely annihilate a small country, not to mention a world-wide super illusion.
Kishimoto probably had a basic idea for Naruto, when it got popular he came up with Tobi-Madara plot (that's why it's somewhat consistent and foreshadowed), then setting and power levels got out of hand and at some point he just got tired and stopped giving a fuck anymore.

This. The only time Sharingan was actually used as intended was when Sauce cheated on the exam by watching the planted aide's subtle elbow movements to discern what he was writing.
Every thing that came after is absurd, even copying Lee's speed. Technique is one thing but he literally made his muscles adapt to his eyeballs.

The Sharingan and the Uchiha are the perfect example of plot tumour.
They basically became gods by the second half of Shippuden and only Naruto was a match. They invaded every pary of the plot.

I think Kishi at some point fell in love with Sasuke and so he made him and his backstory more and more relevant until he realized Naruto was the MC and they were supposed to be foils so he was forced to power up Naruto to balance it.
Eventually anyone not Naruto or without a Sharingan became fodder or "herooc sacrifice" material.

Hell, Byakugan vs Sharingan had the Sharingan being ultimately the weaker of the two, overall: The Sharingan was a crutch that let people bypass their weaknesses, instead of expanding on their strengths.
Then the Sharingan became the answer to everything.
I would have bought the bullshit results of the Sasuke versus Deidara fight whole-hog if it had been a Byakugan user: Seeing shit that's invisible to the naked eye is the Byakugan's thing: Being able to see mines underneath the ground and mines in your bloodstream would be within that same "scope".

In one of the UNS4 trailers Sausage is actually teleporting with the rinnegan.
