What are /a/'s impressions after the first episode? It's from the same CG studio that did Sidonia.
It was ok. Was subs a machine TL of TBS CC or something.
I thought the plot was amazing but in my personal opinion the animation is too weird for me. But the plot seems interesting enough so I'll tough it out. Also the subbed that I watched had Google translate tier translations it was so bad.

Interesting premise, shitty characters and shitty story. Add to that now, shit CG. At most I just watch the scenes where Satou go on a rampage. You can tell the exact moment the writer left and the artist made it edgy as fuck.

On the bright side, it all but forces you to turn the subs off and test your listening comprehension. You can pretty much understand the episode if you've been lightly studying for a year or so.
It looks beyond awful but at least whoever translated this shit made it fun.

Well the CG is complete balls.
I'm not even a CG hater or anything, I've seen good CG in anime and even some really nice entirely CG animations but this was kinda garbage. Looks like a late-era PS2 game with above average cell shading.
Definitely would prefer if it were animated in 2D or at least higher quality 3D CG.

He's that "Bro childhood friend" character that these edgy-monster-among-human manga usually have, like Hide from Tokyo ghoul. They usually never end well though, but they are always the broest to the end

Japanese animators need to realize that the only time CG should be utilized is when it can complement and enhance 2D animation. And for god's sake, stop animating characters using CG. There has never been a case where uncanney valley hasn't been a problem.
The most disappointing thing about this is that it was actually a pretty strong first episode. The cold opening was brilliantly directed. Plus, the CG isn't even that bad. It's dulled by really good coloring and shading. But it's still CG and it just looks odd when you stare at it for too long. The CG is literally the only thing detracting from the show.Knights of Sidonia a shit. It's a harem show in disguise.

The movies and the anime take different routes. From the looks of it, the movies will follow the manga while the anime will follow an alternate route. So you can watch either of them first.
