The english title, Erased, makes me think of a completely different plot. I imagine some kids being erased from everyone's memory. When you ship two characters together you shouldn't ship based on whether its cute but on what the characters offer each other.
In this case Satoru offers Kayo a hand in pulling her out of violence. While what does Kayo offer him that he needs personally from her? This is why he wasn't satisfied with just saving her he needed to save the others to. He need more than just her to resolve his regrets.
Also we get no more development into her character other than her being abused. We don't get to see her flaws as a person and she only serves as the catalyst in the murders. The first of many that's why she so important plot wise. Otherwise who is Kayo Hinadzuki? We don't have enough to go on.
