Comic Anthology 1 Chapter 1. The next one has walls of text, so I'll post this one in advance. Maybe proofreader Anon can look over it while "Erika's pride" is being typeset. Let's enjoy Nogami's wackiness and stiff English.

Let me explain! During the Battle of Villers-Bocage in 1944, Germany's greatest tank ace Michael Wittmann--
wrecked British tank brigade with only one Tiger!
For details, I recommend books like this one to beginners.
It's a legendary battle!
Incidentally, we are now in a cider brewery.
At this instant, it's 08:30. British army have just started to carelessly drink tea!
It's like those guys thought that they've won already.
Miporin, look
Let's have an educational war.
Eeh, mmm...
"Let's... have an educational war"?

Panzer Vor!
At 09:00 o'clock Wittmann boldly attacked British lines.
Wait a second! Are we playing the role of British army?
Are you listening?

Break into the urban area!
Please stop here! U-turn!
Eh? But why, Nishizumi-dono?
There is a Firefly at the town's entrance. And we're not in a Tiger!
(armed with 17 pounder)
I get it now, just what you'd expect Nishizumi-dono! Panzer IV is no match for it!
Also on the retreat path--
Lieutenant Dyas's Cromwell lies in wait!
Reizei-san, full break!
As expected of Nishizumi-dono, military history is cramped into her head!
Aye.
Featuring Assam-san as Leutenant Dyas.

Retreat into the smoke!
Awesome! It's Perfect! I knew you'd go beyond Wittmann, Nishizumi-dono!
Well... If we're going along with the history, all I need to do is remember it.
And now it's our turn!

Was KV-2 at least effective in blowing up fortifications? They didn't break through Mannerheim's line, right?
>>
>>136162556
It made a 152mm howitzer a lot more mobile than pulling it with horses/a truck. However the ginormous turret brought a lot of problems of stability.

Still, it paved the way for the much efficienter ISU-152. And the failures of the Red Army in Finland really cannot be blamed on the KV-2.

Ehh, I don't really think the KV-2 saw much service in the Winter War. Although on a slightly related note the Mannerheim Line wasn't really that strong of a fortification. That myth comes from Finnish propaganda and Soviet excuses as to why the troops were advancing so slowly. Most of the "Heavily fortified Mannerheim Line" was, in reality, just simple trenches.

The StuGs that Finland received from Germany during World War II remained in service in the Finnish military well into the 1960s (although they didn't see any real combat) and were later used for training tank crews, including (sadly) practice targets.

At least KV-1 was able to breach the line in 1944, because Soviet commander really loved the tank during Winter War and requested them. So they gathered the remaining tanks and sent them to Finland where they first saw the action five years ago.

Yeah, I said "World War II" as a whole because they didn't really see service in the Winter War, only the Continuation War as you said. By "They didn't see any real combat" I was referring to after World War II as they were pretty important to the Finns in the Continuation War.

And the Panzer IV actually did see service in the Finnish theater during the Lapland War, against the Germans.

A loader doesn't just load. They're a key member of the team. They are machine gunners, spotters, maintainers, etc. Reducing a crew to 3 must put a lot of extra work on the rest of the crew.

Autoloaders also destroy the dreams of little girls who was to be loaders.

Wasn't a "pro-finn" comment, was more of a "Red Army at that point (midd-purging) was stopped by simple, if well-defended, trenches, and both Finns and Russians chosed to say they were HUGE FORTIFICATIONS instead for propaganda reasons, if inverse of each other" comment.

A loader doesn't just load. They're a key member of the team. They are machine gunners, spotters, maintainers, etc. Reducing a crew to 3 must put a lot of extra work on the rest of the crew.
Not really... we're in 2016, technology in the army is very high, we're not talking about 40's tank here.
By the way, there isn't a real difference between auto-loader and a real loader, even for fire rate, fire rate doesn't matter in modern war for tank

The choice of autoloaders are mainly doctrinal and/or situational.

In Russia's case, it was the ability to train up more tank crews. In >>136164406's case it was a requirement that tanks cannot exceed a certain weight due to terrain. Singapore and Indonesia went with Leopard 2A4s (although the latter was heavily criticized due to suitability of a tank that heavy with local terrain), Thailand went with T-84 Oplots.

Finland is actually relatively flat, you only find "mountains" in the far north in the form of fells. In central and southern Finland the most you'll find are hills.

Still, the terrain is very uneven due to heavy ice age glaciation and its relatively recent retreat. Lots of ridges, cliffs, grooves, bodies of water, bogs and swamps, large rocks everywhere sometimes in the form of entire fields (raised shorelines, "pirunpelto"), and an exposed, erratic rock foundation that tends to dominate the country's geographical shape. While infantry will handle the forests just fine, tanks and wheeled vehicles will run into big problems very quickly. They're not going anywhere without roads (which are also a bitch to build, heavy demolitions are required to negotiate the ever-present rock foundation).

So who will win the next year?

I think Saunders has the most chances with their well-balanced Sherman tanks and experienced members. Kay is fairly competent too, just like Arisa (who will also be experienced by that point).
Ooarai is only gonna get stronger with newbies gaining experiences. But now everyone pretty much knows who are they and what can be done against them. Biggest advantage of an underdog is an element of surprise. Oorai still has what it takes to reach the finals without relying on luck.
New underdog like Emi's Bellwall is a possibility though, although if we go meta, it's hard to imagine spin-off school becoming a champion. Still, I think Emi has what it takes and their tanks are nothing to laugh at.
Pravda will continue to be commanded by Katyusha, so they will not win. Kuromorimine will be commanded by Erika instead of graduated Maho, so I guess they won't win too.

They'll likely remain favourites as long as they do not choke.

>Ooarai is only gonna get stronger with newbies gaining experiences. But now everyone pretty much knows who are they and what can be done against them. Biggest advantage of an underdog is an element of surprise. Oorai still has what it takes to reach the finals without relying on luck.
They need quite a revamp for a couple of their vehicles, otherwise they'll go far.

>New underdog like Emi's Bellwall is a possibility though, although if we go meta, it's hard to imagine spin-off school becoming a champion. Still, I think Emi has what it takes and their tanks are nothing to laugh at.
And then there'll be people here that demand the RW cast come in first to wreck up everything before Bellwall.

>It hasn't been in vain!
The amazing thing is GuP is an entirely fictitious alternate Earth... But with EVERY war, especially WW2, taking place just like our own.

This is rather unique, because usually in anime WW2 is the first thing that gets changed in parallel universes. But in GuP, due to how the tanks NEED WW2 to exist, they kept the war but instead changed everything else.
>>
>>136166253
>thin armour
Noticeably better than at least Panzer IV.
>poor gun
The gun is fine. It's on the same level as T-34/76. It can take out most of the targets. Even if flanking is necessary, numbers and mobility will help with that. And if a flag tank is super burly like IS-2, then they need to create an opportunity for the Firefly. That's much easier that trying to drift around Tiger. Thankfully, Naomi is one of the best gunners.
>high profile
Can be a problem. That's a thing with all Shermans, but it also turns into advantage of being comfortable. Most of the tanks' bad sides are direct consequences of their good sides.
>engine catches fire easily
Does that even matter in Senshado?
>>
>>136166253
>No offense to Saunders or the Sherman but they used such an outdated variant that I can't see Saunders EVER winning.
I think the background info said that Saunders use tactics that are less functional the less tanks they get to have. So this caused them to be weaker early in the tournament. Basically they are strong when at full strength in the grand final but they tend to be knocked out before then.

>>136166047
>Pravda will continue to be commanded by Katyusha, so they will not win.
Note that Katyusha only got the Commanding job because she was the one who blow up Miho's flag tank the year before. So it makes sense that she never had much of a real skill as a Commander.

I wish Saunders would get some Pershing and Chaffees for the sake of variation.
If they absolutely have to use Shermans they could at least field some jumbos and maybe one of these.

Apparently because its heavier then its contemporaries and the jet turbine engine is wasteful.(uses 10Gallons of fuel just starting up), and keeping them fueled is a logistical nightmare.

As far as I'm concerned its proven itself in battle, and the turbine sounds badass.
I don't think it's better then any of the other modern MBTs, they're all pretty much equal. Hell, most of them use the same main gun.

>>136169182
Actually the turbine and transmission are all bundled in to one component, a "power pack". It can be replaced quite easily with a spare in the field. So it could be argued that it's easier to maintain.

Saunders has literally no chance of winning because, precisely, Sherman spam. They're the eternal quarter-finalists.
Pravda can now win again precisely because of Katyusha. I'd take Mihio's assesment over all the armchair m/a/jor generals - she IS very good. Her weak point was her pride, and she has been taken off her pride. Next year, she will be a VERY dangerous opponent.
But we all know that there are exactly two possibilities.
Either we have a S2 of Oarai winning.
