We want it everywhere.

It's not true, anon .Anime/manga pretty niche outside Japan. They struggling to sell even 1/10 of what they sell in Japan. Even in USA and some favorable EU counties, much less everywhere else.

>They don't even sell R18 doujins
>Meanwhile the other 2 near by stores sell a few selection of 2013 Comic Mate and other dusty stuff like Comic Kairakuten 2014 or Comic X-EROS etc. Shopowner told me they are phasing out R18 doujins.

At least I think Thailand will be a good choice.

Someone has never left america...

Theres so much translated manga in thailand compared to the available ones in the US u cannot even begin to imagine.

This just shows how shit of a job official english translations are doing. Step it up sempai.
>>
>>136109999
I hear they're also opening a store in Flipland within two years, or something. Not sure if it's been confirmed though: could someone check?

>>136111246
>It's not true, anon .Anime/manga pretty niche outside Japan.
From experience it's arguably more mainstream in SEA than it is in Japan itself. In Japan being an otaku can get you into problems but in SEA it's considered being cool and is more or less welcomed.

>>136110333
Don't forget AFA.

So what's the difference between animate and something like Kinokuniya other than animate focus only on anime and manga?

There's like three Kinokuniyas within that region of Bangkok alone and ten or so other manga/anime stores, so what make animate special?

Where are the largest concentrations of anime stores in Thailand? Do they sell adult doujins there?

Pic slightly related... Seoul Comic World
>>
>>136111667
>Bangkok anon
Have you ever heard of Bangkok Comic Con?

>So what's the difference between animate and something like Kinokuniya other than animate focus only on anime and manga?
Never heard of Kinokuniya but as I've gone to Animate when I went to Japan I think their gimmick is that they have "incentives" for buyers such as loyalty rewards and points. They also have exclusive stuff such as posters.
>>
>>136109999
Thailand really loves they're animes
>>
>>136111754
Center of the Pathum Wan district, that's where all the major malls are located. There's stores that sell adult doujins but those aren't usually in malls and you have to go out of your way to find them and it's usually more like you place an order through the store and the store will buy it for you as the middle man.
>>136111785
>Have you ever heard of Bangkok Comic Con?
That was only one time, isn't it. Not as many anime/manga stuff, mostly Western and movie showing when I went there.
>"incentives" for buyers such as loyalty rewards and points
So what do those points usually get you?
>>
>>136111466
despite being one of the sex tourist destination R18 stuff are considered illegal in Transland

>>136111667
Kinokuniya is a book store. They only stock manga and magazine (Jump, Kirara, etc), Animate is all about anime related product (BD, OST, figure, keychain)

>>136111754
They got AFA, May'N, Eir Aoi and fripside in the same event

>>136111641

A store like that would probably do fine in Manhattan. New York is tourist central so at any time there's going to be thousands of closeted (or not) weebs roaming the streets. Not to mention the people who would go in and maybe buy some shit out of the novelty of it, or to "embrace other cultures".

I thought I read somewhere there'll be one in that Cool Japan mall thing that's being planned/built.

>>136112008
It happened last year too, but it was a collaboration with AFA IIRC.
>Not as many anime/manga stuff
Really? They even had Emitsun, Maon Kurosaki, and Mami Kawada back in 2014.
>>
>>136111641
>From experience it's arguably more mainstream in SEA than it is in Japan itself. In Japan being an otaku can get you into problems but in SEA it's considered being cool and is more or less welcomed.
It's not that it's welcome or hated in SEA, it's become normal especially with the younger generation. Even for the adults, anime isn't some disguising hentai cartoon, just another genre of shows that's popular with the younger ones, and they accept it without stigmata now.
>>
>>136113527
Anime has been exposed to most of SEA ever since the early 90s after all. That's why the average SEAfag has probably watched a lot more anime on average just by being a kid who lived through the 90s than a western child during that time.
>>
>>136113527

this. you will find it's a normal topic of conversation outside of the chans and in facebook and blogs.
>>
>>136113321
Yeah,

and thanks to Asiasoft, we are lock out of PSO2.
>>
>>136113527
>It's become normal
Pretty much this. Atleast in Thailand it's hard to find western cartoon on television channels other than specific one, western comic are also a lot less popular than manga. Liking western comic seem to be a lot nerdier than liking manga.
>>
>>136113503
AFA side is packed, cosplay is also dominated by anime character (but most of the decent are from western side desu).

Comic side is empty like Google+

It's not like being west malaysian was any easier, the convention area had a 3-4 hour stilllock traffic jam by noon both in and out of the area.
>>
>>136114455
I think the Malaysia GP and a bunch of other stuff were taking place during the same weekend, so that might have been the problem.

You went there, though? How was it? Was the event packed and/or well-promoted? I know someone who went and he said not too many people went, at least to the con proper.
>>
>>136114579
Not him, but I went to the Comic fiesta sure it's called a comicon but it's essentially an anime con last month in the same venue and what he said was true down to the 3 hour jam I suffered just to find a parking.

That's ridiculous. The anime community is arguably prominent both in Malaysia and Singapore, I think. I mean, we have conventions occasionally and it's not that hard to find weeb merchandise here. There's plenty of stores for that.

If there's one thing Singaporeans and Malaysians have in common, it's that the weeb population in both countries is considerably high. We're not in the powerless minority at least. Most people here see anime just as another show on TV.

As far as I know, you'll find more conservatives bitching about K-Pop culture here than about Jap anime. Something about K-Pop corrupting younger generations or whatever. Guess anime doesn't have the same effect. Southeast-asians hate Koreans more, probably. Don't know why.

I can't speak for Indonesians, however.
