ITT Dub > Sub
>>136053953
dub all the way only way to watch anime why read when you can just hear them like a normal show sub is only for pricks who think there better that others
>>136054384
b8 but whatever
Often English dubs are terribly voice acted and sound forced which breaks immersion. Probably just that cartoons in general have terrible voice acting but if it's in an unfamiliar language it's not obvious it sounds unnatural.
What are some good/decent dubs? Need some stuff to watch while exercising, Panty + Stocking was great for that but it's pretty short and I can't keep rewatching it
>>136053953
I like the dubs for the old Miyazaki movies since I grew up with them, but I feel that they might not be very good. Even when I was a kid I noticed, but I thought it was 'just how these things worked'. The worst is probably weird pauses or speaking too quickly in order to lipsynch or whatever, but also just the voices that come out of the characters sound a little unnatural to me. Forcibly acted, or something.
>>136053953
nope
original voice acting for princess mononoke is fantastic. dub isn't bad though, at least
>>136054707
Black lagoon
Hellsing
Shiki
Basically the edgier the show, the better the dub.
>>136053953
Ghost Stories
>>136054707
Planetes
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo
Black Lagoon
FLCL
Monster
Official "better dubbed" megalist:
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Black Lagoon
Hellsing Ultimate
Samurai Champloo
Baccano
These are the only shows with SUPERIOR english soundtracks
Am I the only one who preferred the Japanese audio of Cowboy Bebop to the English dub? Yamadera and Hayashibara man
>>136055111
Yes. GTFO.
>>136054811
>>136055024
I think I'm the only one who hated the English accents in Hellsing. I hate them in general in anime
>>136055111
I'm pretty sure people who've watched Bebop in Jap are an incredibly small minority compared to dub.

Ghost stories
>>136055227
I'm half jap and I speak the language so I feel like I'd be doing myself a disservice to watch them in English
>>136053953
It was ok when I first saw it dubbed on cartoon network. Sub better though

Cromatie will forever by my standard for dubs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2CgxM0l0WA
TheGermandub was okay
>>136053953
Pokemon. Not sure if it's simply because I heard the dub version first.
As a comparison I heard dragon ball in english first and I hated every single voice acting in that piece of shit. Old woman voice goku is superior in every way.
Dubs?
>>136056778
You tried.
>>136055317
This. Just Batou alone, but the whole production is pretty amazing.
>>136056778
I have no significant complaints with the Haruhi dub, I liked all the main cast, and if any genre is gonna benefit from being in your native language it's comedy.
Honestly, Dub is currently best thing about DB.

you best jokin' mate
>Not watching your Anime muted while playing Beethoven's Piano Sonata No.8 and No.19, or alternatively one of his many String Quartets.
>Having the nerve to watch anime on a screen any smaller than 60 inches and at anything less than 720p, without a glass of wine or champagne that is at least equal to or above the caliber of Dom Perignon.
>Thinking that you can truly understand the Japanese tongue before having seen the Cherry blossoms in person as they fall upon your cheek while you run in a rushed, yet gingerly manner with toast hanging out of your mouth.
>Thinking that any Anime made by a director that doesn't suffer from depression and works with animators that work less than 18 hours a day should even make it onto your palette let alone be worth your time to judge the audio quality and its various versions.
>Not understanding that Anime was a mistake from the start and that despite the preparations you should make before watching it, mentioned at the beginning of this post, started going downhill (in terms of overall quality) after 1918.
I knew I was among casuals, just not casuals of this bottom scrapping quality.
>>136057754
>Sonata No. 19
>Not a casual
You know that it's a training piece for children, right Anon?
Casuals, all of you...
>>136057855
for training or not it is a beautiful. Music is often enjoyed most when heard as a child. If nothing else please consider these things the standard at which we all should follow. If you find yourself wanting to branch out with other Beethoven pieces please do, you will do nothing if not gain even inspiration from listening to the great works of Beethoven.
Only weebs watch subs. You are not a weeb are you /a/?
>>136055111
i liked them both
>>136057754
>1918
>not 1897
Wow anon you're so fucking retarded holy shit
Oh, good. There's a dub thread up...
I have a question for you, dubfags.
Why did early dubs replace the epic music with instrumentals from Tom and Jerry?
>>136055205
How did you feel about the non British sounding cast?
>>136053953
>good art
>good dubs
>managed to mash 3 of the games in to 13 episodes with a good ending
Feels nep, man.
The only time I've chosen subs>dub is for K-On (the first dub) and gekkan shoujo nozakikun
>>136058412
because its public domain most likely

It's like the show was made for being dubbed.
For good dubs
>>136061095
For dub>nipdub
>Baccano
>Golden Boy
>Cromartie
>Porco Rosso
>Castle of Cagliostrio
The only dubs I give a shit about these days are Golden Boy and FLCL.
>>136053953
What was the most recently made anime with a decent dub?
Most stuff that's decent seems to be from the 90s, where it's forgivable since it seems like "oh it's somewhat old so it's okay" or maybe dubs really were better back then
>>136053953
dub are only acceptable if you are watching 20th century animu.Anything in the 21st and after is shitty
dubs?
>Princess Mononoke was 30 years ago
>>136053953
There has never ever been a case when the English dub is superior to the original
The best I can say is that a good dub doesn't make you want to tear your ears off.
One word: "Cableado".
>>136061562
>hasn't seen cromatie high
>hasn't seen golden boy
>hasn't seen great teacher onizuka
rurouni kenshin is the only dub I'll watch anymore because the nip version has that kenshin that sounds like he's 7
>>136061535
it's 2031? Where have I been these past 15 year?!
>>136061611
Original is always better my friend
>>136061649
FUTAENOKIWAMI AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
>>136061611
Arguably GitS:SAC too. The dub was decent, and the original Japanese was pretty fucking bad with the butchery of all the Russian names.
>>136061689
Whoops, my bad. I looked at UK release date. 1997, still ten years off though.
>>136061781
anon theres no way you're old enough to confuse 10 years and 30 years and surely you didnt watch it on released day
Most of the 90s dubs were fucking awful, and approximately 100% of 2000s+ dubs are fucking awful.
There just isn't a sustainable market or much money involved in it, hence the talent pool consists of the same 4 people (who are all bad) doing the same voices in every show, and hobos pulled off of the street.
The most particular problem is that it's extremely hard to replicate Japanese girl voices because their body builds can be overall so much smaller that they have a much easier time maintaining that higher sound. Usually dubs sound very obviously like ladies in their 30s holding their noses trying to increase their pitch or something.
>>136054707
Steins;gate had some great voice acting, better than sub imo
>>136061840
Oh fuck off
Dub fags told me it was a good dub, so I tried it out for fun, shit was absolutely terrible
>>136061904
tuturu motherfucker
>>136054707
I actually liked Kill La Kill's dub
Yu Yu Hakushu, Gunslinger Girls and Good Luck Girl. Space Dandy of course too.
>>136055205
I literally hate dubs, but hearing Alucard as Guan Yu was hilarious. Also, Butler-man was a really good accent, especially when eh reverse aged
the ghost in the shell series had some pretty good dubs(haven't watched the new series).
>>136053953
FMA had a pretty good dub.
>>136061840
WHEN YOU'RE ON A CHICKEN BENDER
Manga Dub of Castle of Cagliostro beats original Jap voices.
and I fucking adore Yasuo Yamada.
I would put all my money on saying that english dubs are usually shit
However, Spanish dubs, from spain, not latino, are sometimes superb. I remember with special delight having watched death note in Spanish and enjoying it more than subbed
>>136065006
I would say thats wrong and that you are stuck in 1997. Dubs are usually good if they are faithful to the characters and story. I find it funny how purist shit on dubs even though we know they dont watch them thus deflating their argument. Saw the Trigun dub for the 1st time and holy fuck it destroys the original.
>>136055205
It takes place in England... There was literally nothing wrong with them.
dubs are great
Only a deaf person would prefer Eva's dub. Not a single character is portrayed better.
czech em
Dubfags don't care about or have any respect for voice acting. They just want something that delivers the dialogue in the easiest way possible (a dub is easier to process than subs, even if you've read subs your whole life). If it's not so shitty that it gets distracting, then it's good enough.
Dubfags don't have much respect for anime in general, because to invalidate the importance of the original voice acting is to invalidate the creative vision of the people who made the anime.
>>136065734
I like dubs AND subs, faggot. Your words insult yours and my intelligence.
>inb4 No True Scotsman
>>136065819
Then that just means that, at best, you have slightly more respect for voice acting and anime. But fundamentally it's still the same thing.
The only time Dubs are good is when they're in a "so bad they're good" kind of way. But most of they time they don't get to that level, and are just bad.

cant tell if youre autistic or just that much of a weeb
>>136066134
I didn't realize the viewer has to assemble, pay and direct the voice cast. I thought they just buy a DVD and the voice track is already there. Please tell me more.
>>136066200
what?im talking about when the studio passes rights to another company to add voice acting to a pre-existing anime in another language
>>136066305
Then go talk about it to someone else. It has nothing to do with what I said.
English dub is shit, you guys just can't into dub.
