I like to see the second half of the story as the MC growing up, coming to terms with his past and accepting his new life, so I am glad he moved on and stayed with Aya. That being said the second-to-last chapter, the one with the dream, offers different interpretations: according to some it could mean the MC starts pursuing "madness" again; it's still puzzling me.

Yes, whether he chose to do it or not is still up to debate, but if he really chose to pursue the path of madness again, it would completely defeat the purpose of the whole manga about one's quest to grow up from their chuunibyou phase and become a healthy member of society. I doubt the author wants to do that.
