This season is fucking amazing, for the brief moment of a couple of years I really thought Chinese cartoons were beyond repair.
I can't believe they're actually fucking trying out new things and working on their quality. What has happened in Japan, where and why did this change start? Sure, most shows still stick to their cookie cutter characters and retarded genre tropes but at least they're combining them in a creative manner.

The one that really stood out was Bubuki Buranki, I don't even recall seeing an anime as well directed as that fucking piece of Fire Emblem cutscene expansion done by a bunch of newbies.

Maybe we will live to see another golden age after all. Or maybe not, seeing how brainless the nip consumers are, and even you f/a/g elitists don't seem to have noticed anything. Actually, just kill me right now, that tiny flash of false hope was far worse than the misery I grew used to.

I think you are really overthinking the subtext part. I mean sure they are idols who are actually idols but that's really it. You just kind of gave a plot synopsis. It's an anime about despair and contempt for the machinery that sucks out all your enthusiasm and makes you give up on your dreams. She seems to be set up for a good character arc. Will the Sekkou Boys change how she feels about statues? Will her actual art skills come in handy? Will she reconsider her dreams? Will she quit her job and go work somewhere else, only to find that it's even MORE statues?

I guess the historical aspect also gets me excited, almost in a Servants from Type Moon sort of way. It will depend what they do with it.

Way different than what I expected. Soothing artstyle and atmosphere, chill music that is even more special since it isn't used all the time, down to earth scenes without loads of overraction and hyper characters. Just really cozy and unique, especially for a fantasy show.

I paused the show about five times wondering if I should even finish the first episode. It has that typical Kyoani manic directing except turned up even higher. MC is typical passive aggressive wet blanket, all of his interactions are unpleasant but at least he has a hobby (which he only has because the author needed some excuse to give him utility). One cliche strung to another; cute girl who eats a lot and everyone stares, girl falling and MC almost touching her titties (acknowledging it as a cliche in universe does not absolve you), MC seeing girl's panties on accident and her getting mad and attacking him, etc. Just an endless series of yawns. To top it off the action is the same floaty, overactive shit from KnK. This may be the first Kyoani show I drop on the first episode.

Good animation quality, interesting story where you're still not sure what exactly to expect, likable protagonist, great character design. Not every anime needs to be super dark and serious, anon.

I don't know anons, it still feels average at best. Might just be me but there is no appeal, but then i didn't watch Excel Saga so i can't turn a blind eye cause it has similar traits as an anime you enjoyed in the past. The character designs were good though

I never watched Excel Saga, personally. I picked up Pandora because it had the same director as Locodol. Personally I rate anime according to the enjoyment I get from them, I enjoyed Episode 1 of Pandora a lot. The humour was consistently good, the characters are fun and likable, the brown lady is shady as fuck, the weird group of cosplayers attacking them with giant bulky robots was funny (like the part where they were too big to fit through that doorway so they just stood there staring in).

Far from "average at best" in my books. Anime has been hit and miss for me so far this season. Pandora is one of the ones that made me smile and kept me interested, and kept me curious for next week. Cute cyborg girl with her "I know kung-fu" programs that are temporary means we'll get to see something new and unexpected every week. It's a good formula.

Don't get me wrong, I like the serious stuff too, but I also like the fun Saturday-morning-cartoon stuff like Pandora and Bubuki.

They were funny, and the lady too. My main problem is the cat girl cyborg, a rather dull character that doesn't like any kind of touching, and the interaction between her and the protagonist which just got too silly for me.
Also, the MC seems like the stereotypical "genki" girl that gets too easily overexcited for the smallest of things so i guess it's just the MC's that seem a bit boring, but we'll just have to wait and see.

What the fuck are people doing on /a/ who are so casual (or is it "hipster" in this case?) that they can't even find five or more shows to watch this season? This is arguably one of the best seasons in ages. This is the first season my RSS download rules have a scroll bar since Fall 2014. I guarantee you that if you like a show this season, there are two or three others like it you'd also enjoy, that's already past the halfway point of five.

Nurse Witch Komugi R is fucking terrible. It doesn't even feel like the OVAs. They just took some of the main characters and turned it into a generic high school magical girl show. I was just waiting for it all to be a dream that the OVA Komugi was having, but it never happened.
