Sup /a/, just finished up watching the last episode of Eureka 7 and I need something to feel the void in my heart, and while we're on the topic why the fuck is AO hated so much? Just finished the first episode and it doesn't look too bad at all really.

Just keep watching you blundering homosexual - it's terrifying bad . And the original E7 is AIGHT, but nothing special.
>>
>>135972888

How? I mean I'm reading these reviews and it looks like a bunch of retards over the internet just desperately wanted BONES to canonize some neckbeard's shitty EurekaXRenton fanfiction. Or they desperately try to compare AO to the original series when it's meant to be a deviation.
>>
>>135972790
ao is ok tier but it wont touch u like the original does

You'll want to kill yourself the further along you get. AO was really a clusterfuck that made little sense. Eva was easier to understand.
>>
>>135972999

Fuck you Anemone and Dominic was so fucking forced it wasn't even funny. There wasn't even any building like there was for Renton and Eureka. Anemone was an unlikeable spoiled brat and Dominic was a beta bitch-boy. It felt like they just wanted to shove it in there at the end to please the fanfiction writers.

God you don't know how bad I want another Eureka 7 show. AO was so bad and delivered in such an awful way that I feel like BONES really didn't do credit to Renton and Eureka as characters. They abandoned literally EVERY plot device from the original series that made it great and fucked with original concepts like Scub Coral and Seven Swells and made them all shitty and confusing. And don't get me started on fucking interdimensional time travel bullshit and Secrets, like seriously what the fuck?

Remember the whole plot about how Renton and Eureka, a human and Coralian, falling in love to prove that the two species can come to an understanding?

AO retcons that and makes Dewey objectively right. All Coralian/Human hybrid kids turn to stone statues in E7's atmosphere

Yeah I watched the series a second time too, that doesn't make it good though. All I wanted was another series that focused on the aftermath of the second SOL, AO was a good character but he was put in an environment with characters that just felt dead, like they had no substance at all. Also wasn't it the point at the end of the first series that Renton and Eureka were supposed to prove that Humans and Corallians can co exist by having the Human-Corallian hybrid child? If that's the case then doing the whole "back in time in a different timeline" thing just kind of fucked over the original series in the most un-interesting kind of ways. I don't know, I don't know how I feel about AO but it's likely nothing positive. I don't have the same feelings that E7 gave me.
>>
>>135973289
thanks mate im playing them all at the same time to get the full effect
>>
>>135973314
ya 100% agree maybe if i just had a nice OVA of R and E after they run away doing romantic lovey dovey shit i could feel whole again
>>
>>135972790
God AO was such trash. Different writers totally killed everything E7 was going for and just wrote a bland piece of shit.
>>
Spoilers:
Time reset fucks every relationship Ao's ever built in the series in his own timeline, rendering them actually pointless - nobody remembers or even knows who he is.
The brown girl is going to be around 40 since she didn't time travel, and the blonde girl he'll likely never meet.
That and it's never explained who the fuck Johansson is, since he was supposed to arrive to Ao's timeline via time slip, but supposedly Ao "fixed" that by making it so the Scub never traveled to the past, thus making it impossible for Johansson to arrive in that timeline. Yet after all that, his book is still present in the past (somehow), either meaning BONES fucked up, or Ao fucked up as the time slips still occur.

And that's just part of it what I hated about it. I'd still watch it, but it certainly left a shitty taste in my mouth. I just treat it as an alt. universe that has no bearing on the original series any (like the movie).
>>
>>135973488

I tuned out after episode 13, "phenomenon of the disappearing scub corals" killed it completely for me. I thought all the Scub Corals left with the Nirvash at the end of the original series? Just tiny changes that eventually tore the entire thing to shit halfway through made me hate the series and it's writers.
>>
>>135972790

Well Dominic had feelings for her almost from the get go, Anemone only developed feelings for him after he left her side towards the end. My only problem is that it felt hella rushed in at the end with only a few eps, they could've done it much better if they give them a few more moments together earlier on. But I didnt really mind either of them and I have a weak spot for forced happy endings.

>>135973248
>makes Dewey objectively right
Well not really? Dewey just wanted to eradicated the Coralians because Earth was mankind's homeland and he didn't want to share. I don't think he ever got into his opinion of Human-Coralian hybrids.

The whole toxic to hybrids atmosphere thing is such bullshit anyway. The fact that Renton and Eureka can even reproduce means that Eureka just has an altered human genome in her, where the fuck does "sensitivity to trapar that results in hardening insides" part come from?

God AO sucked. The writers were hacks to begin with but hacking up Eureka Seven to cobble together AO's convoluted bullshit is just unacceptable.

As is the case with sequels. If you're not pandering to the original audience then you might as well be making a new IP. But I guess that takes more effort. So why not just bastardize an old IP with some writer who isn't invested in the original story's script instead?

When it comes to entertainment I'm usually easygoing and don't get bothered too easily, but Ao left me pissed. Whichever wise guy had the bright idea of creating a sequel with none of the original production crew should be permanently ejected from the world of animation.

And that movie... ugh.

Why can't they just make proper E7?

Besides, I see another, proper E7 series coming fairly soon. Honestly the fan reaction to AO had BONES in a tail spin. In the poll the posted on their facebook page asking what fans wanted to see next the majority of people said they wanted an E7 series that focused on AO being raised with Renton and Eureka and had more of a "after the fact" premise with the old crew of the Gekko.

I'd be so ridiculously down for a comfy SoL Eureka series that revolves around Gekko and a happy Renton-family.
>>
>>135975043

Seven Swell is a bust of Trapar Waves that occurs when the two pilots of a Nirvash with an Archetype come into an emotional agreement. It's basically just a giant burst of visible, colorful trapar waves. But AO made it seven pillars of light instead and made it that the Swells "take people back in time to other dimensions" and is how Renton had been travelling to other dimensions looking for Eureka and Ao.
>>
>>135975082

Well buckle up buckaroo we just might see one in the next few years, but it'll probably be a while if ever. I can't imagine BONES not wanting to rectify that aborted pile of shit that was Astral Ocean.

The movie is fine besides using supporting cast members as random assholes and at least has an interesting idea and some neat references behind it. It's not what people signed up for but it's an interesting movie to think about and fits with the ideas of the people who created the franchise.

AO is none of those things, it uses main cast members and existing terms in retarded ways as part of primary continuity, its ideas are all fucking retarded and don't hold up to any scrutiny (nor ever have a point), and the references are random and entirely nonsensical. It's like a -really- shitty version of Nadesico more than Eureka Seven.

The game sidestory was pretty good for the budget and development quality the games had, it was a nice bit of story within the universe with a slightly more military robot bent but at the same time some even more wacky hippy shit. Not sure how the manga version is.

The manga had some nice highlights - expanded development of Dominic and Anemone is probably the best part of it - but otherwise it destroyed everything that made E7 good, much like AO. But in a massacred version of the main story, not a spinoff. For goodness sakes, in the manga the scub coral are literally coral from Earth's oceans that got twisted and sentiented via pollution and are now straight-up evil and want to wipe out humanity. Eureka vanishes with the coral in the end, leaving Renton forever alone. Dominic also dies, leaving Anemone in a wheelchair also forever alone. Pretty sure there's a bunch of other terrible crap like that as well, but I can't remember all the details.

Still, for a big fan of E7 I'd still recommend it, just for the expanded Anemone/Dominic development which you can cut out from the rest and treat as canon.
>>
I'll never understand how they took the wonderful story from E7 and stomped on it the way they did in AO

They had a perfect opportunity to expand upon the existing lore and characters and went the ass backwards route instead
>>
>>135977095

The orignal show was good but it seems like they stumbled into the plot that people liked. Her name was going to have to do with finding her memories that were scattered in seven places. During the anime run it seemed like they figured out the romance was going to be the main drive of the show.

The movie was awful
>>
>>135972790
>and while we're on the topic why the fuck is AO hated so much?

They had 24 episodes to establish and conclude a plot.
They used about 3 episodes for that with the rest being battle of the week and every 4th episode having some mild bit of foreshadowing for something that gets dropped or resolved offscreen anyway.

Most people as it was airing assumed it would be 50 episodes again because it was going fucking nowhere and we didn't have an exact episode count officially until right at the end.

If you mean the original series, you seriously need to watch it. Episode 50 is magic and entirely captured what the series was building up to from the very start.

If you mean Ao, no.
>>
>>135978504

I think calling it "derivative" is a bit much. There's no problem with being unoriginal, there's nothing new under the sun and all. What's important is that you take some idea and implement it well. Eureka Seven did this, and the series has held up for me rewatching it after having seen many other series.

Even if you can easily compare points to sources of inspiration, it feels like its own work and that is what matters to me.

>stumbled
More like had key moments embedded throughout that made people forget what a slog it was, notice how people never actually talk about the plot in E7 just the characters. Its a perfect example of more isn't always better and had the series kept its grounded coming of age boy meets girl meets robot story rather than just another Evangelion-esque plot in the second half it would have been better. AO would have been better if they have just stuck with the MotW format they were going with originally instead of the Orguss-esque plot that it became it also had "too many cooks" syndrome when it was obvious that they had too much to work with on their plate which is why so many elements and characters wind up not mattering that and the lack of key moments to make people forget about the mess of the plot didn't help it much.
>>
>>135979737
Agreed the parts that I like are all the characters mostly the Gekkostate.

Would have been much happier with a gundam style story instead of trying to do the whole alien intelligence part. It even might have been okay when they find they were on earth all along and all the metaphysical stuff could have just been meaningless junk. With Eureka and Renton facing the fact they don't have a greater purpose but just each other.
