>>135857870 So many damn people "take up a cause" because they are bored and have nothing to do, afraid that they are going to die and not leave their mark on the world.
This is also how they deal with values they don't like, because they do not have the strength of character live how they feel and not encroach on others so they instead, use things that bring mobs of people together to back their views instead of being able to stand up on their own.
You know how you keep a girl from getting raped? Teach her how to fight and how to keep herself safe, such as not making bad decisions and being mindful of her situation and the people around her. Making YouTube videos and blaming society and how "terrible the world is" doesn't mean you are exempt from doing your job as a parent and making sure your child knows what the fuck to do.
Those who don't deserve to get locked up with Puri Puri, with the whole thing recorded so we can laugh at them. Or fap. Or both.

>>135859440 >So many damn people "take up a cause" because they are bored and have nothing to do, afraid that they are going to die and not leave their mark on the world. This really is a problem with the world today. There aren't too many things people in first world countries have to worry about anymore. Then they just invent things to get worried about, and here we are as a result of it.
I really worry about what life will be like even 30 years from now when more of the younger crowds of these assholes start getting higher up into government. I believe we're well and truly fucked, to be quite honest.
>>135859591 Mob mentality isn't exactly new to society, but what really is worrying is the role that social media and the internet takes in this.
No matter WHAT cause you may have, be it being angry about fictional characters in video games and manga/anime, animal rights or how coca cola is lowering their sugar amount per bottle, you will be always able to find dozens if not hundreds of people that will join you in that inane fight. 4chan isn't safe from this either, sadly.
>>135859591 yeahhhh i've definitely seen people create 1st world problems, but rape isn't one of them. That's something people really should be worried about because it does actually happen frequently.
>>135859782 >Mob mentality isn't exactly new to society, but what really is worrying is the role that social media and the internet takes in this.
The free spread of information is one of the greatest advancements in the history of mankind, if not THE. Unfortunately, people are anxious creatures by the nature of our society and now they think the world is so much worse when in reality, they just are aware of more of it than ever before. The brain can't handle it and they go into panic mode. The information is the part they can handle, but the emotional weight that comes with it as well as the survival instincts that kick in when "ISIS IS AT YOUR DOOR" type of things play out in the media overload the person, so they fight against it using ideas and ideologies, usually through social medias.
Mob mentality is a truly neutral thing, as it could bring people into a just cause as well but you are absolutely right: people will follow other people, if for nothing else to not be lonely.
The core of the causes themselves are not always to blame, but the perversion of them by the people that seek to take up the banners upon their backs.
One must dismount an ass to ride another, but in the end they are still riding an ass.
>>135860298 It happens, it should be dealt with, but the statistics on it are easily skewed. I have an extremely hard time believing 1 in 5 women have been raped in their lives. I view it in the same light as the '70 cents on the dollar' myth.
The way they're going about combating it isn't entirely sensible either, as the other Anon pointed out.
>>135860298 >That's something people really should be worried about because it does actually happen frequently.
Oh, no doubt there, however you cannot stop rape with some movement or rallies. Rapists don't care about those things, only rape.
Rape is something that happens to the person not the people, so you must train the person to avoid, counter and recognize such things.
If someone walks up to you and punches you in the face, saying they shouldn't have doesn't take the punch back. If you blocked it, moved your head, moved out of the way, countered them, etc., then that removes the event of the punch happening.
>>135860387 Sometimes I just wonder where things went so wrong. I don't want to blame anyone, because in the end everyone seems to be at fault. I don't particularly like the term "outrage-culture", but it encapsulates perfectly in what state society is in today. I'm not going to lie, looking at the internet is just really tiring to me. It's like you have access to the akashic records, but more than half of it is screaming about inanities. And the real issues get either ignored or swept under the rug. While the internet is a fantastic tool for free expression and sharing of knowledge, the use of it today seems to be the exact opposite. Why? I don't think I will ever understand it, and I feel defeated and apathatic towards it all.
>>135860554 >I have an extremely hard time believing 1 in 5 women have been raped in their lives. I view it in the same light as the '70 cents on the dollar' myth. These are debunked feminist myths. While these matters are actual problems, exaggerating them will not solve anything as well as make it harder to observe actual trends/changes.
>>135860554 personally, it's definitely seemed like 1 in 5. but i think the gov is right, and it's close to 1 in 8 or 1 in 10. That's pretty damn high >>135860645 Rapists don't care, but that's not who the movements or rallies are targeting. They're targeting the organizations who are supposed to punish the rapists. Right now alot of rapists get away with it, and i've seen them avoid prosecution even when it's statutory rape of a cop's daughter. So what you're seeing is really just an attempt to change the culture of juries & the people who collect rape reports. Colleges are giving professors training on mandatory reporting, police depts are changing policy on how they interview victims, etc. It can get annoying when people are pointing out every creepy bit in an anime, but keep in mind its really just overflow from a culture war. They're grasping at every straw to convince people to get super pissed off anytime they see something rapey, because right now we got a situation where it's common for a mother to pressure her daughter not to report a rape just because it'd be inconvenient for the rest of the family.
>>135862012 >They're grasping at every straw to convince people to get super pissed off anytime they see something rapey But exactly that is counter-productive and creates apathy to the cause. Especially when everyone and their mother gets accused of being rapists, or defending rapists. The only reaction you can get from this is opposition. You would think that (presumably) adults would realize this.
>>135861802 I know you feel, that these are the worst of times. I do believe it's true. But these memories of yesterday will last a lifetime. we'll keep the best, forget the rest, and someday we'll find: these were the best of times!
>>135862012 If we're talking about the USA, Department of Justice reports rate of rape and sexual assault it as 7.6 per 1000. Other backwater countries may have it higher, but even 1 in 8 is pushing it. http://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=pbdetail&iid=5176
>>135862344 That's not true though. They're totally winning favor. Institutions are changing policies, and in the past 10 years the internet & press has only gotten more & more overtly feminist. 4chan & subreddits are really a minority holdout.
Whether it's ultimately effective, i dunno. It's really all just to pressure cops & lawyers to make changes to their jobs, so you hope they're smart enough to make the correct changes where needed. If they get pressure & they know it already works, they'll hopefully just change enough to save face & still keep it working. I think it'll all work out for the better, but yeah it kinda sucks if someone calls me rape supporter cuz i liked cross ange. not as bad as getting raped or seeing a rapist get off scot-free, but it still stings
>>135863497 True, but the biggest difference is that many of these people are of a vocal minority and are so driven by ego that it is unlikely for them to ever truly unify into a single group with a dedited single purpose and plan. It's kind of like a hydra with every head trying to do something different
>>135863210 i think it's fair to push it that high. That stat sheet includes several surveys, and the 7.6/1000 comes from a stricter definition. the definitions from the ones getting 14% seem valid enough to me. I can see how some of those definitions would be harder to prove in court just with your testimony, but i've definitely seen alot of people who's lives have been fucked up by those exact kinds of rape.
>>135863259 >4chan & subreddits are really a minority holdout. That's nonsense. You can see backlash against them at every news site. Especially on IT-related sites. When I go to google news, and there's an article about any of these causes, you can bet your sweet ass that the comments section is flipping their shit about it.
>I think it'll all work out for the better I don't, I think it will ultimately destroy a lot of good things, especially freedom of expression. Alone the term "political correctness" makes my skin crawl. The very idea just screams fashism to me.
I agree with what the other anon said beforehand, what works is teaching people to defend themselves. Relying on the government to solve problems has and never will work, it will always make things worse. The government will not prevent rape, the only thing it will do is put a band-aid on it after the fact. While it might feel good at first for you, don't you think it's pointless in the long run? Presecution will not solve the problem, you'll just feel better about the problem. And when you presecute people that are not involved as well, you move on thin ice.
>>135864246 Comments section aren't the ones writing the articles. I've seen comment pages & forums slide to the left, too. The backlash has always been there, but the balance of power is definitely not in their favor.
You're pretty lucky you haven't had to deal with a lot of rape victims or ever thought how to seriously defend against rapists or try to stop them. Self-defense only goes so far; the fact is they're predators. Like any other criminal, they go after people who are weak or go after you when your guard is down. Or they do it in a way that's hard to report or prosecute, like going after someone who's passing out drunk.
I'm really not worried about the freedom of expression end of it. This whole board is founded the ideal of pirating thinly veiled pornography. Alot of feminists i'd met have fucked up sexual interests just like on this board, so I think shit like prisma ilya is still gonna be widely available no matter how much flak it gets
>>135865590 Can you point out the rapey jokes? Because the most that he does is frenching people. If kissing people against their will is considering full on rape now, then everyones grandmother will have to go to jail pretty soon.
>>135865726 In Netherlands the definition of rape is very vast, any kind of sexual harassment or forced sex, even French kissing without other person's consent is list as rape. The punishment for rape in Netherlands varies from 4 to 15 years ...
>>135865726 In ONE's version I think there seems to be more rapey jokes. He comes to that kid super hero after a battle and says "hey come over here for a hug" and the kid denies him and he hugs him against his will.
>>135865574 People get paid to write articles. People are gonna shittalk on either side in the forums & comments, but if the mainstream media is adopting feminist thought, they're betting they can make money and will continue to make money no matter how pissed off the other side gets. Same reason we'll get majority moe & fanservice shows until otaku stop paying hundreds on figurines & BDs.
I made a broad statement about you, but i don't think the thought you've put into self-defense amounts to much. It takes alot of training to develop the proper physical and nervous system responses to deal with a determined attacker, and you haven't demonstrated that mindset to me at all. You're probably smart enough not to get raped by someone who drugs people's drinks though. Or identify the kind of friend who'll drive your drunk-ass home & then molest you when he drops you off. That's kinda the point though; a rapist is gonna go after someone who isn't aware or just be someone's friend until they're vulnerable. Self-defense is definitely valuable, but its only a part of a solution that also includes more stringent laws & better prosecution
>>135866763 Sounds like Japan to me. Still, Holland doesn't factor into this at all. If germany would classify farting in the presence of somebody else as rape, I still wouldn't get offended by Naruto.
>>135865726 the kissey faces he makes at boys & the way he hits on guys is annoying. I just say it's rapey because he's in jail for serial rape and he says he breaks out of prison in order to love men.
