Flew under the radar for most of its 1996-2011 run. Could possibly have been bigger if Viz had put it out a year or so earlier to properly ride ADV's DVD releases. It had a notorious reduction in print numbers at volume 7 which sold for $250+ at some point.
There were some fascinating tidbits in the notes for the last volume, that the manga ran in a fairly obscure seinen magazine, but the tanks outsold it by far.
The best part is the bonus comic about Rikdo's encounter with kidney stones. He had problematic ones forcing him to go to the hospital. Except it was during a typhoon, so there were no trains and no taxis. And he wasn't dying fast enough for them to bother sending an ambulance.
So he had to walk, with kidney stones, through the goddamn typhoon.
