I stopped playing PSO2 awhile back because you still had to have a "license" to use/have the items drop, for any gear above 9*, which you could only get using cash shop bought currency, and only lasted a month.

You need a pass to buy 10*, 11* and 12* weapons (10* and 11* units*) from the player shop as well as premium. You also need to get one to drop to turn into a pass. With the content right now: 10* and 11* weapons / units drop like crazy to the point that EQs drop so many that you convert them to Excubes (Magatsu gives about 100 per EQ for me). Anything of a lower rarity can be bought right away regardless of level (equipping is a different matter).
TACOs are weekly but Daily orders are a thing that give a good amount of Meseta. There's a boost going on due to the anime airing which gives 100% EXP, Rare drop and rare enemy appearance boost.

TACO means Time Attack Client Order. Basically, a certain map you must complete before the time limit and you net yourself a good amount of Meseta (at least a million to two million if you throw in Extreme Quest Client Order. Hell, some Daily Orders can be done during the TACO runs).

Excubes are currency that you use to purchase good items such as 250% rare boosters (6 cubes each, worth it during an EQ like Magatsu so you pull a huge profit), 30/40% affix boosters (they're a fucking life saver when you plan on doing some affixing), 30% grind risk reduction and some other things.
If you exhange for a pass before your premium runs out: you can still use the pass without having premium so you can stockpile a bunch of passes for when you need them.
Yes, you have to get a 10* weapon to drop to turn it into a pass so you can buy the one you want from the player shop. Like I said, you get them very easily when compared to how it used to be (lucky to get a 10* drop from Falz Elder and you had to consider getting the rare booster since it was harder to get cubes).

But no one cares about 10* or 11* anymore. BO can use Craft Mastery to make their 11* as good as a 12*, but there's a power gap between 12* and 13*. Regardless, there are free 12* pass Title Rewards if you want second best without having to do all that silly hard work.
We're all about stones now. EQs and Ultimate drop various stones that can be collected and traded in for 13* weapons. Though you need a shitload for most of them, and they only come partly attribute grinded, so you have to buy several if you want to get 60 element.

They're come from paid content, but end up on the player shops for maybe 300k a pop on Ship 2. 300k is, like, nothing. By level 50, that's maybe two weekly quests that'll take ten minutes of solo work.
