Well, no she was supposed to marry hodr in the first place. But she grew fond of rygart, and was totally okay with eloping with him before the marriage was even scheduled, but he shot that down.
So she and hodr marry, and the story starts a few years later, where rygart turns out to be the only one to be able to pilot delphine (other than his brother, perhaps), and truns out she still wants him and he still doesn't think he deserves her, even though pretty much everyone else thinks they are already doing it.
As hodr, while it isn't specified if he and sigyin did actually consumate the marriage, by this point he pretty much accepted that she wants rygart rather than him, even though he likes her too. Having her sign the divorce papers to keep her alive in case the royal family is sent for execution was just the moment where he definitely lost.
