I read what's on Batato and now I'm going through what's in this thread, but I wanted to jump ahead to say: this is some good shit!
I'm still getting used to how to jumped from full on Dragon Quest parody to teasing a darker more serious role-reversal version of DQ. But it's fun, the character designs are good, and I like the characters. Definitely going to be following this one. Many thanks to the dedicated Anon providing it.

Well, obviously. We're seeing the same thing happening in different places with slight variations.
There's something loose in this world that causes people to enter a state where they become massively stronger, and continue to increase in strength the more they fight. Curse, awakening, whatever you want to call it. Most people lose their reasoning and become savage creatures, but a few are able to retain their mind and become great heroes. Though even they risk turning mindless if they push their power too far.
What's most notable is that this *doesn't* happen in the Demon Empire. The reason might have something to do with the toxic poisons they keep mentioning without explaining.

Thinking more, there's also the King's Power at work. That seems to be something the helps trigger the Hero's Power as well as giving dominion over the created Heroes. Or it can be abused to create a horde of rampaging monsters.
It also seems like the New World Organisms are related to all this, as is the spontanious spawning of monsters in the Empire. Which, now that I think back, is related to toxin concentration. Maybe the Dragon Emperor did something that directs the curse away from his citizens, but at the cost of poisoning the land and spawning monsters?
We also still know nothing about the SSS Rank threat the Empire is holding off from the north.

Helck is similar to Seven Deadly Sins in that it is as much of a love letter to Dragon quest as SDS is to Final Fantasy and Arthurian myth. And is also more tightly written.

We already have a partial explanation for why Heroes have infinite respawns. The "Heroes rapidly mutate and improve through battle" is an in-universe perspective on combat XP. A reasoning behind levels is probably in the works too.
Especially since the island ruins looked pretty high tech to me, from what little we saw of them. The salvaged device that turns MP into water jet propulsion is certainly a lot more advanced. There's a lot of backstory being hinted at that we haven't seen all of yet.

There's a pattern of kingdoms unlocking some forbidden power. It might all be connected to the same source or it may simply be an Aesop's fable. Like a recurring theme, you know? No matter where the power they gain comes from, they're essentially sacrificing their entire nation just to win a fight.

Reminded me of this, same type of transition with goofy MCs and serious side characters.
Bakabt doesn't have the author having any other credited works but he must be fairly experienced to pull off something as good as this.
Also something I noticed is that we don't get that often a gary stu overpowered protagonist who isn't having every female being falling for him. Also we've been having a man and woman travelling together and developing their relationship without any sexual tension at all. I can picture Anne from management coming to admire Helck, but can't see any of them wanting something more with each other.

There's clearly variations in how these power ups work. With the tribesmen who were terrorizing the orc people, everyone apparently still retained their own wills, but just couldn't oppose their king. Although we can't say whether they're really different from the human angels, that they simply thanked Helck for defeating their king and casually picked up their stuff to leave, they were probably just obeying their leader and not being directly controlled.
The curse these horned people suffered wasn't centralized on anyone and simply made everyone go crazy. The "hero" of these horned people was able to resist the maddening effects for a time, but eventually went crazy too. Except, instead of mutating, he was simply clad in the magical power of the curse without transforming.
As the angels in the human army have had their identities subsumed, they've also taken up a uniform appearance except for the ones who kept their own sense of self and, among those people, they have variances in their personal appearance. Considering how whatever spell the king used seems to have affected the human kingdom nationwide, Helck may not have been unaffected by it too. He's just too strong to be taken under by the spell, like the horned hero in these chapters, which could be why he remains untransformed and free.

Looking at later chapters the artist definitely gets better over time, you can see as it goes along he starts to even out Helck's proportions and facial features to look less goofy.

Could be considered a transition in the story's tone. It starts out pretty goofy and the details are pretty hazy, so Helck looking as he did just added to the ridiculousness of the situation. Then, as the PLOT thickens and more direction is added to the story, Helck design shifts to fit the tone better.
