To be perfectly honest with you, I almost don't watch anime anymore. It's bored me. I only took what others people recommend me to watch in here and nothing more. This year I only watched OPM (Yeah, I know, but I really like it. The fanbase is pretty shitty though), Ashita no Joe (I don't really like anime about sport but this one was awesome. Some anon recommend me the manga, I'm going to read it later), and I rewatched Yu Yu Hakusho and Cardcaptor Sakura (two favorites of my childhood)

Nah, you're normal. I used to do the same when I was tiny. That's just another way to enjoy a story, its the same with a book. You need to understand and live what the characters are living to have a better point of view of what's happening. I don't do that anymore, I prefer to analyse and pay attention to the details, but it's nothing wrong with self insertion, just never forget who you really are. A person that only lives in a fantasy is not healthy.
