The opening scenes of Rebellion melted my heart, they were just having regular, non fucked up deconstruction magical girl adventures and were all happy, and you just knew it couldn't last. I think they make the movie more interesting. If it had ended with Madoka reaping Homura, it would have been more beautiful, more elegant. The ending felt forced, not natural at all, but it's kind of the point if you think about it. The criticism is that the original ending was perfect, even if there was adness in it, the movie is a cash grab and we should let go. This paralells Madok's desire to go back to being the law of cycles being the natural and good status of things, and Homura not wanting to let go, wanting to force an idealized version of what her high school life should have been, forever.
Now that i think about it, the next movie should have a potential future self of Homura appear to try to convince her that being in high school for eternity is a fucking stupid idea.

Personally nothing pisses me off more than Sayaka x Homura because it's people shipping the only two characters who absolutely hate each other.
