Why was 90s Japan perfect? I mean perfect?
>basing your conclusions on idealized representations of a country and time that you never lived in
It's probably the lack of giant eyes and pink hair with a mind of their own
>>135653732
Well why do idealized versions of 90s Japan look so much better than idealized versions of modern Japan?
>>135653812
Idealized versions of older times in any country during the 20th century look better than modern ones,

>lied and took $1000 from a guy and took her half a year to pay him back using her dad's money
>movie had so many problems it nearly bankrupted Ghibli
Worst girl and director.
Mochizuki should have been allowed to direct another Ghibli film.
Just look how beautiful 90s Japan is.

Don't Japanese people think the 80s were the golden age?
>>135654042
Don't work anon he went on to direct everyone's favorite anime.

Wasn't it the Edo period?
Wasn't the 90s when the economy took four shits and died?
>>135654071
>>135654355
I think OP meant 80's Japan
>>135653670
because you are blinded by the vaporwave aesthetics
Their economy had yet to crash
They were doing so well the projections had the US fearing that the Japanese would buy out all their companies
Japan was king of the world for about five years in the late 80s-early 90s
>>135653890
80s
>>135653670
because the 90s were perfect
>>135653890
Anon, thank you for reminding me of that, also, fuck you
>Seiji Fujii wrote a novel about the case 17-sai which was turned into a manga by Youji Kamata. Contrary to what had really happened, the novel shows a happy ending for the girl, who's still alive and her kidnappers are sentenced to jail for many years.
I need a fucking drink
>The Lost Decade or the Lost 10 Years (失われた10年 Ushinawareta Jūnen?) is the time after the Japanese asset price bubble's collapse within the Japanese economy. The term originally referred to the years from 1991 to 2000,[1] but recently the decade from 2001 to 2010 is often included,[2] so that the whole period is referred to as the Lost Two Decades or the Lost 20 Years (失われた20年, Ushinawareta Nijūnen). Over the period of 1995 to 2007, GDP fell from $5.33 to $4.36 trillion in nominal terms,[3] real wages fell around 5%,[4] while the country experienced a stagnant price level.[5] While there is some debate on the extent and measurement of Japan's setbacks,[6][7] the economic effect of the Lost Decade is well established and Japanese policymakers continue to grapple with its consequences.

Or
>gallant escapism

I mean in the 80s this man was a jovial comedian living it up so hard he was banned from NTV.
In the 90s he was this:
Not sure if it was the 90s. But for some reason I watched a documentary about early Japanese television. Basically, instead of one big channel for the whole country, places would have their own local channel. They showcased the office of one of the channels. They had a few employees. I especially remember one qts job there was to edit videos on a strange machine and make tea for the boss. Shit looked comfy.

>Hand drawn cels look so good.
And they're still hand drawn in most anime to this day.
>>135653812
Capitalism slowly disassembles culture, so 90s Japan had more character of its own than it does today.
Ocean Waves is fucking shit
>>135653670
Maybe it's animation back then.
>>135657718
Yeah, that's how old and dated my screenshots are.

He's just poor at articulating his thoughts. The main factors are
- the lack of grain (some might consider it noise but it's more like a subtle form of texture and gives the picture a more physical, tangible quality)
- digital coloring is easier and has more options, which leads to ugly extremes like hard filters or too many conflicting colors being used simultaneously.
- digital linework is hardly ever given character. Pre-digital lines were crisp and lively, digital linework usually uses some default-looking clean and even brush which while not messy, is also very boring.
- DIRECTING. Good god, people underestimate and are blind to directing.
There's also things like changes in pacing, volume and speed of dialogue, amount of cuts, changes in musical trends, etc.

I agree it was extremely boring.
At least the aesthetic was nice.
