This manga is the prime example of blowing your load too early on. Not to say i enjoy reading edgy manga but they could have really dragged on the whole rape side plot a lot longer than they did. I stopped caring about Sidonia in any serious way a long time before the end, so all the cliche shit, contrived asspulls and lack of fucks given by Nihei only mildly amused me. By 3/4 of the way through the only thing I cared about was mai Captain surviving the end.
Looking back at it the manga was a classic case of good premise but poor planning and terrible execution, a good editor would have sorted that mess out back when the manga was still good.
