What is your favorite mecha anime from the last 5 years?
Mine is Majestic Prince. I like the design of the mechs. Excellent battle scenes and one of the few anime where CGI looks good. Story, music and characters were all fun imo aswell.

I don't think I've finished any recent mecha series. I tried Majestic Prince but only got six or so episodes in. I liked the Bad News Bears meets Gundam thing they had going, but it felt like every idea there was half-formed and not explored fully enough.

Without the 2004 Series, OVA and movie, I can't rate it higher than 7/10 and that's if you don't mind not knowing a majority of the cast, their motives and their character arcs.
With all the previous material I'd put it at a 10/10 for myself.
You have to treat it like one big series.
Jumping into Exodus would be like jumping into a 58 episode series at episode 32. You've missed half the story. You'll bypass the wonky animation and slow opening, at the cost of all the world building and character development.

Because at first it was just the few of us on /m/ watching it in our threads. During its run some people kept popping in to see what all the fuss was about and some of those became converts.
Also since we have nice little pictures telling everyone exactly what to download and watch it became much easier to get into Fafner. It also helps that Fafner is fucking amazing.
And yeah I had hoped for way more closure at the end, but I'm fine waiting for the eventual sequel.

i actually really liked greco, it was kind of a mess at times but i totally bought into the world. I really hope the whole visual team and designers get to work on something together again. Tomino too, his ideas are pretty cool but he just needs someone to reign him in. Writing, directing and storyboarding is just too much for one person anyway let alone a 73 year old man.

I watched MJP and the battle scenes were painfully overrated. They relied too much on shakycam and this was probably the only actually well-choreographed fight. The characters were quite fun, Ange was great.
I'll definitely go with Fafner for the best mecha of the decade.
