>>
I only scanlate doujinshi when I feel like it

I feel bad for all the groups working on manga who desperately need translators, but I don't like responsibility.
>>
What can I expect the average file size of each page to be if I want to stay at 600dpi? I tried using zopflipng for compression but the difference was miniscule and the file sizes are still way too large for me to justify. At the same time though, I spent a lot of time and effort scanning and editing all the pages myself and I don't wan't to lose the image quality. Is there anything else I can do?
>>

Not him, but how easy is it to build one of those auto-flipping digital camera setups? /diy/ seems to make them, but are they actually any good for manga?

h-how mad are people if you scan with a phone?
>>
>>135594358

I think just getting an actual dedicated scanner would be better in the long-run.

That being said, there's very little useful research or information about what scanners to use for manga. I only bought a Canon 9000F because I knew a couple people with that model, so I was able to get some samples that satisfied the editor. If only we had a Newegg warehouse guy who could test new scanners for us.

Oh, I'm only averaging 3MB on a regular greyscale page and 6MB on spreads. Is that actually okay? I figured it was too big since the file size I see for most pages is less than 1MB so I thought I must be doing something wrong.
>>135594613
I keep the untouched original scans in their own folder and then the ones I want to use as finals are shrunk to half-size but keep the resolution, and somehow I miraculously managed to avoid the patterning issues that I see happen a lot when people resize. I saved some test pages in 300dpi but it made the screentones look awful and a lot of subtle details in the line art were lost so I'm trying to avoid it.
>>
>>135595878

35mb is for tif in IrfanView, with no scanner filters, etc. I just default to tif, you might be doing PNG or something. If the pages are only 3mb, you should just post a page and someone can yell at you if there's something wrong with it.

Most groups have translators that can't write in english at all so they need someone to decipher esl gibberish and then rewrite it. Also most people who using sfw to save in png usually compare scans, and indeed most care very much about different coloring and then process to save scans in rgb or in jpg. That's why we have so many autists who using png24 and bloating scans for no reason or killing them with low quality jpg.

I'm interested in translating a doujin by Hirama Hirokazu. It's a one-shot (so no continuation as far as I'm aware), 18 pages, nothing too complicated. Pic related is the first page, it's about a kid who goes into his family's shrine to fap in privacy and gets his virginity taken by the white snake goddess.

Unfortunately I can only translate and need someone to do all the editing (cleaning, typesetting, etc). Would anyone be interested? I can't pay money but I'll translate 1 doujin of your choice in return. The Japanese raws aren't the best of quality but I'm looking for better ones.

New series by Amazume Ryuta, nigger who does Nana to Kaoru.

Misoji Otome to Mote Hatachi
>Natsuki, the beautiful madonna of the university photography club, is famous for having relieved countless men of their virginity. However, the girl that Hirata the freshman has his eyes on is not Natsuki, but her big sister Fuyuki.

>Fuyuki is a 30-year-old bookstore employee who's never had a boyfriend in her life, and she even looks younger than her little sister. How can Natsuki help Hirata in wooing this late bloomer and introducing her to the pleasures of sex?

My dick needs it badly.
