The thing is, they can mimic SHAFT. They have Oonuma Shin which was SHAFT's main guy before Shinbo came in.

The scenery shots might not look as nice and whoever directing might ruin them with adding dialogue over them.
But yeah, I think they would be able to make up for that by making the dialogue between the characters more interesting in traditional SHINBO style since it is admittedly quite boring at some points.
I don't think I would like NNB that much if it were to get Shafted. The style now is far better.

Even in Shafts most beautiful shows the backgrounds were never diverse. They usually pick out one main color that will give the overall tone of the picture, instead of something colorful like, you know... nature.

Depends on the budged, if they want they can do great backgrounds.
