Isn't it obvious, it went full on relationship drama. The first few episodes were really interesting and next minute it's relationships for dummies: the series.
Yeah. I thought it was a meme that people thought it was the best shit ever until recently, though. A friend who watches a decent amount of anime still not only says it's one of his favorite shows, but insists the first season is better than the second.
I've decided to use this as the new metric for how shit someone's taste really is, because as someone who thought SAO was average to good, maybe a 7 or so, the second season was clearly better.

I wasn't always like this though. When I heard there was a second season coming I cringed a little. Recently, when I heard a movie was coming out, I was pretty excited.

I did. I liked the first season. I wasn't going to watch it but saw the fist episode by chance and went with it.
Then I saw that special or whatever it was.
Then watched second season up till the first arc which was episode 14 or something and I couldn't continue further I lost interest after that for some reason.
I wasn't interested in the second season too I just marathoned the bullet arc because it looked interesting

I enjoyed season 1. Season 2 was kinda shitty. Honestly, I think this show's biggest failing was the complete lack of worldbuilding. One minute we're on floor one, then next thing you know WOOPS WE CLEARED UP TO 17 OFF CAMERA. Fairy Dance was even worse about it, like it's almost like it was based off an existing MMO so no explanation was necessary. But it wasn't.

I'll admit, I did enjoy the first arc covering the first game, and the short bit after it. As soon as they started the second game I stopped enjoying it.
I mean, there are problems with it, but I was entertained enough to keep watching the first half of the first season. The scene where he does kendo with his sister is great but that's exactly the moment everything goes to shit, too.
