Well, technology is a double edged sword. If that form of unification does what you think it will do then sure, great. But I'm not that optimistic.

BUT our power is also individuality. See, perfect unification of goals and means does not lead to innovation.
Ants or molerats or whatever do not invent because they bet all their evolutionary money on unification. We on the other hand have cooperation despite individuality. And it's individuality that in some small percentage of population leads to innovation, breaking the mould, thinking bigger than others.

All civilizations have beginnings and ends. If we congregate into one big group, we will all end, or at least experience a much more debilitating catastrophe. If we have many smaller groups, even if one dies the others may not necessarily perish. Also, there are some bonuses to independent development. Teamwork is essential, but I think the marginal benefits decrease the bigger the team.
