The thing is the novels leave a lot of shit open to interpretation. The fact Kyoto took their own liberties at some points made for some of the best and worse moments in the anime. Kyon's dialogue allows for so much leeway in how the world is represented that they could've easily portrayed the endless either in a ten minute sequence if they wanted.
Giving people the feeling of monotony from experience the same shit over and over again wasn't the intention of the source, the reader got that impression just by having it explained by Kyon because we've all been there. Everyone has had those summer moments where the days just sort of blend together. We didn't need it forced upon us as a reminder by making the sequence eight episodes long. But like >>135467694
