There's nothing wrong with the first half for the most part.
It's supposed to serve as another version of the origin story, with Fujiko as the center character instead of Lupin.
The first problem is that Fujiko is often the weakest part of any Lupin episode so it's very telling that the best episodes involve the other three members of Lupin's future gang doing all the heavy lifting. So when it's mostly Fujiko doing everything criminally it's not really quite as fun. You figure, femme fatale, willing to seduce and gun down anything to get her way, should be great, right? First episode carries a lot of promise on that front. Then it just sort of devolves into Fujiko being kind of a passive observer to everything going on which is the same shit Fujiko was doing in all the other Lupins, which is a waste of her time in the limelight.
Then you get to the meat of the overarching story that holds the secret to Fujiko Mine's origins and everything escalates into endgame.
Then there's the final reveal that pretty much renders everything about the main story pointless. The explicit nature of the twist is great, Fujiko's not some damaged but pure waifu on the wrong path that just needs to be loved and healed by self-insert-kun, she's a dynamic woman of action with her own sense of agency.
So it raises the question why the show wasn't just about that Fujiko Mine that could do cool shit instead of trying to be the Evangelion of shows about people stealing shit starring some woman that was constantly on LSD for the second half of the show.

The thing is this.
People like Fujiko to be the wildcard in the group, mixing things up with her constant betrayals and un-betrayals.
If she's the MC you really can't make that work well most of time.
Still shouldn't be an issue if you find other ways to make it fun.
Would have been nice if they went for more of a role reversal scenario with Fujiko being the focal putting her plans together and going after some rarity before Lupin fucks it up for her.

The scene was handled by the genius mad animator Oohira Shinya. There are like two or three seconds missing from Oohira's cut at the end. This is by far the best scene in the series so far. There are only two wrong things with Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna. First, Goemon was handled poorly. I mean, he was decent when on the scene, classic Goemon but the story had no idea what to do wiith his character. He was just only kind of there for the sake of being there. Second, the OST is absolutely magnificent but the tracks are damn short. No long 3:00+ tracks. The longest one is probably 0:40 long and for such great tunes it's a bloody shame.
