As someone who read Sidonia in one go a few months ago I don't get all the hate around the ending. The author wanted an happy ending and the only way to achieve it was by saving Tsumugi through plot armor. The manga is still great overall too.
Pretty sure most of us read this for one reason and one reason alone
This ending felt like NTR, I have never been so infuriated, I know it was cancelled but still.

The manga is called "Claymore". It's about those girls, the claymore, not about the rest of that world. Just because the manga ends doesn't mean you have to tie every loose end in your world.

I really didn't care who ended up with who, I hated the fact that the he killed off penis worm for cheap drama just to bring her back in human waifu form in the ending, I hated that the big bad antagonist got beaten by stepping to the side really fast and than turned into blubbering pathetic bitch right before he got shot, I hated the entire last fight with the planet engulfing final boss.
I would have liked to know more about space cheese and what the fuck the gauna where supposed to be.
anyway biomega doesn't really have that much shipping besides master chief killy and cortana. biomega just felt like a waste of time, after a certain point the manga shot off in several directions and the ending felt like he was cancelled before he could answer any of it. it's been years and I still don't know what the final scene was supposed to mean. pretty action scenes but probably the worst story of any of nihei series.
most series with famously shitty endings either I wasn't too bothered by them (like Ranma) or dropped it way before it happened (like >>135426524)
This series is the closest not because I didn't like the ending (dat lesbian sex on the moon) but because it ended so abruptly I now have a big, oddly-specific hole in my heart that reads "yuri harem battle shounen fantasy adventure".
on the flipside it made me grateful that One Piece won't finish any time soon (at least that's one adventure series that'll never get axed).

A lot of what we know about them comes from earlier in the manga, like when they discovered that the Gauna chase after Higgs particle sources. I'm not sure if we ever learned anything beyond that.

He didn't explain a lot of things, but leaving something mysterious isn't necessarily bad, though in this case it does feel kind of lazy. The ending was just that, completely lazy asspulls that made no sense and didn't fit the tone of the series at all.

Nihei never was a good storyteller or worldbuilder, but he's an incredible designer and illustrator. He just draws a bunch of cool shit and throws it all in a blender until he gets bored. It was clear that he was tired of Sidonia and just wanted to move on to something else, so he just tied a bow on it and threw it out the door in a few volumes.
