Character-wise:
He takes a bit after his grandfather (Minato) in that he's really talented, but he has real trouble actually putting in any hard work and his character arc in the movie is all about learning to not just cheaply cheat his way to what he conceives to be results, because that will fuck up everything. In that he's completely the opposite of his father who tirelessly banged his head against problems.
The above thing is resulting from taking after his mother with a self-confidence problem. As the child of important and famous people, anything he ever achieved was attributed to him being Naruto's son or having Hyuuga blood and chakra control/Uzumaki reserves. He want to prove himself by getting his own stuff done, but can't take the pressure and feels he has to cheat, rely on a crutch to be on the level of others, which in turn fucks his self-esteem even more.
For whatever reason Kishi and a lot of in-universe people say that he takes after Sasuke, but from what I've seen of him it's not true at all. He doesn't really do anything crazy or edgy, does not join even one terrorist organisation, did not turn to dark powers in pursuit of vengeance and handles his butthurt without desertion.
I don't really know what character Sasuke has that Boruto could have taken after.

We never really see enough about pre-massacre Sasuke to make that conclusion. He's a pretty generic happy kid.
The only conection that could be made is one through distant fathers, but that's both a very common thing to pull off in the genre as well as a shallow link, since one is frustrated with clan shit and from Sasuke's perspective favourable to the elder brother, never accepting or acknowledging anything that he does, whereas the other is simply busy as of late/presumably bad at delegation which put a minor strain on their relationship.
That is more of a state/situationi their characters might find themselves in, rather than a similarity of character anyway.
Again, I do see the similarity in a potential drive for both characters to prove themselves, but for me too much of that connection relies on us inferring bits of young Sasuke's personality.
It has a lot to do with a big 'what could have been' based on a character whom we never see much of, whose life and character takes a very dramatic turn towards the man the in-universe people know and whom Kishi has written for a decade and a haft, and THAT character shares nothing with Boruto as-is.
With a lot of stretching and the audience filling in the gaps he could have been perhaps a little bit like Boruto. He also could have run away and joined a circus, he also could have died against Haku or ended up hosting Orochimaru.
The connection is simply not meaningful or substantial enough to be brought up so much, except for Kishimoto's weird obsession with connecting Naruto and Sasuke.

Not "Only Indra and Ashura's reincarnations", rather "two people that have the two chakra types, melted together". Madara awakened it because he had Senju and whatever the other chakra was.
For example Naruto has Ashura chakra, and Hinata after The Last Movie has Hameru chakra, since Hameru gave her all of his chakra in the end along with all of her knowledge. Technically this brings both bloodlines together in two different ways as well.
So technically his kids have the potential to unlock Tenseigan even though they never will. Since Tenseigan can be unlocked within someone who has the power/chakra of both of Hameru's families, the Hyuuga and the Ooshiteru or whatever. We even see her using Hameru chakra in the movie in order to power up Naruto.
I mean you still need Indra and Ashura chakra to unlock Reiniggan, but you don't need to be a reincarnation. Simply getting the chakra of one of the heirs should possibly work.

He's too excited, he thinks he can handle everything now that he's in charge, only to have it all crash down in one incident to remind him that he can't handle it all no matter how much he splits himself.
He was putting the job before his family in a sense at times, in the end its his family that ended up suffering a bit because of this. Hinata was ready for this shit, but his children weren't quite as prepared for what this might entail in a sense. Which only puts a bigger rift between him and his son as well, who comes to the office the next day to bitch at him for that.
He knows he fucked up there pretty badly, but the movie is about both father and son fucking up a lot and generally being awkward around each other.
Really they're both trying though; like when Naruto leaves his seat among the Kage during the Chunin exams, and goes over to sit with his family instead during the match. Since he just wants to watch this shit as a father, rather than as a village leader.
However that event only leads to their biggest falling out in the movie in the end.
Naruto is finally watching Boruto closely, he's paying attention to him, Boruto can't fail now, but he still doubts himself. That added pressure causes him to cheat during his match, which ends with him being caught and the match being stopped by Naruto who takes off Boruto's headband in front of the crowd, and then Boruto says some shit to him that cuts Naruto a bit deeply.
They've got their issues to work out, but by the end of the movie it sort of works out.
