Just watch as many episodes as you care for in a day and then do something else. Its a marathon not a sprint. Also I found each arc offers a good start and endpoint if you wanted to watch 4 different animes instead of one 110 episode long one.

I watched it a few eps at a time and didn't get very far, maybe 8 or so before forgetting about it for a few months.
Then I came back and watched up to about halfway through season 1 and got hooked hard. Some nights I'd watch through 10 episodes til the sun rose.
By the end you'll wish it wouldn't end.

It's okay, but it takes like 20 episodes to become even remotely interesting.
It's honestly not that incredible of a series; autists just get excited about it because it addresses a more "adult" set of themes and questions than most anime. The problem is that it's all handled kind of poorly and the production itself is ugly and dull.
The only exceptional thing about the series is the voice acting, which IS quite possibly some of the best in anime. Wakamoto's best performance is LoGH.
Also a lot of great characters, though the story itself is unremarkable and the space battles are both stupid and boring to watch.
It's probably a 6.5-7/10. Anyone who claims it's the masterpiece of anime should be disregarded and/or ridiculed.
