Maybe getting to be in Final Fantasy will fix her like it did Maaya Uchida and Ai Kayano. A lot of VA's I find unremarkable suddenly get to show something more once they get out of the pigeonhole that is the anime scene. Anime is pretty much as far down the totem pole as you can go in the Japanese entertainment industry in terms of roles with potential anyway though so not surprising that your average VA can break out almost immediately after getting something out side of it no matter if they had several dozen anime roles beforehand.

Does anyone find that the current crop of popular VA's just kind of sucks or is at best incredibly mediocre. Like no matter how fucking hard the industry pushes Taneda, Uchida, Uesaka, M.A.O and Amamiya to name a few I just still haven't really found much to say about them or that really stands out. I kind of just wish they'd give the roles back to Hayami, Hanazawa, Kugimiya and the like. What's wrong with those people all of a sudden anyone besides their asking price has probably gone up a bit this year? Also the casting choices in a lot of recent anime are getting way to blatantly political and frankly outright poor. There's literally no reason for Yuki Kaji to be Phoenix Wright other than lame fujobaiting and popularity reasons because Capcom in their infinite wisdom decided to go with fucking A-1 the butcherers like everyone seemingly insists on now.

- Taneda is alright. Her problem is that she gets cast in shit shows as one-dimensional characters.
- Maaya has improved tremendously from her starting days so yeah, I like her. I used to think she was just a pretty face.
- Sumipe is amazing and a good seiyuu. You wouldn't expect that from an idol seiyuu, at least I didn't.
- MAO also has great potential but I need to see her in more / better roles
- Sora is the only who hasn't justified her push to me. She's okay, but nothing special and I can't say that she just didn't get the right roles to display her potential because almost all her roles are lead roles.

Games are pretty much equally low. Just like with anime, it really depends on the popularity of the work itself whether a role will be a breakthrough or not for an actor.
If you really want the bottom of jobs, try apps or being a generic advertising person (ie. MCing a PR radio or video show for a work/service without having an actual role in it, eg. Kondou Kanako on Guilty Gear's web radio around 2006).

Do you honestly believe FFXIV magically "fixed" Kayano and Uchida simply by virtue of being a video game?
A much simpler and more likely reason for their improvement is the fact that VAs will improve at their craft with experience as do many other professions.To claim that the moment they did acting for XIV was then they suddenly spiked in quality is ludicrous and I would challenge you to find an example of this sudden massive improvement and link it to XIV.
Practically speaking, the actual dubbing for XIV wouldn't have been much different than any anime . You could even argue it would have been easier due to the fact that they only need to time-sync with the pre-rendered cutscenes. All the lines from the ones rendered using the in game models lack that constraint because the player manually advances the text.
