I actually read the manga before I saw the TV series. Stumbled upon the first couple of volumes in a public library one boring summer afternoon as a 14 year-old or something like that. Needless to day, NGE blew my teenage mind. So I saw Sadamoto's rendition of the scene and thought it looked amazing. You can imagine my disappointment when I saw the show and this pivotal scene just looked goofy as all hell.

I don't get why people dislike Rei Q. During most of 3.0 I felt pretty sorry for her since she was being bullied by basically everyone. Although Shinji's behavior towards her was reasonable from his point of view, since he was disappointed in her not being the Rei he thought he had saved, it must've been pretty shit for Rei Q herself, who didn't do anything to provoke this kind of hostility. Plus everyone constantly calling her a fake throughout the movie.

I understand that the reason people are angry is because Rei II didn't appear in 3.0 and maybe they assume that Rei Q 'stole' her screentime, but that's just not true. If 3.0 wasn't horribly flawed in general, I wouldn't even mind her abscence, not in a 'I'm glad Rei didn't appear' sense, but because it's okay to be absent as long as it is explained and makes somewhat sense. Although it'd be nice as a fan to see her appear on the screen, it's not a requirement, as long as she has enough screentime throughout the whole of the Rebuild series (including 3.0+1.0). While of course TV is a different medium, she didn't appear in every episode of NGE, either and it still worked out. I think the same counts for a movie series if you look at it as a whole. If only we wouldn't have to wait so long for the sequel.
