Perhaps you underestimate the power of bad directors. Look at Yamakan for example, as soon as he was removed from Lucky Star it started to improve dramatically.
That being said maybe these people in question in OP possibly could prove far more adept at shows like this rather than drama/romance stuff. Or not, who knows.
