I've been waiting for VR my whole life. I seek the ultimate escapism. I do not intend to live in any one anime - rather, I will journey across the metaverse, seeing and experiencing all of these worlds, endlessly, as long as possible.

In fact, I have already started. It is only a matter of time until things become more and more advanced.

The difference between being in the Matrix and being self-absorbed in a MMORPG is choice and knowledge. The people in the Matrix, despite being given a paradise, did not have a choice nor the knowledge to chose.
Ideally, the machines should have let everyone know they were in a computer simulation, let them know they were using them as an energy source, and let the ones who wanted to leave out. And then they kill those ones. Then everyone else enjoys their nonstop days of fucking anyone they want with no STDs, eating all the food they want without getting fat, and/or just plain doing whatever they want all day every day with no consequences or responsibilities.

Incidentally, I'll be going to the GuP anime to have fun fighting in tank matches.

A process already exists where you can inject stuff into your eyes, put on a pair of glasses, and get artificial visuals piped to your brain. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aa2JfigaNcs.

Just needs to get more clarity and have the process become something people will want to do.

At least it solves blindness nicely.
>>
UC Gundam. And only if the real life would be failure.
>>
>>135324330
I've done some casual investigation into stuff like this, and the main problem is interfacing with the brain.

With a wet connection, meaning a direct connection, PHYSICALLY, to the brain, we could achieve higher synchronization with the brain, able to create sensory data, deliver it to your brain, and receive data from the brain to be input for the apparatus your brain is attached to.
The problem with that is that we don't have the understanding of the brain to even begin wiring a wet port, and even if we did that shit would be dangerous. Getting that down to a basic consumer level would be more than just tech, it would be a feat of medical knowledge.

Without a wet connection, you'd be looking at something similar to a cat scan. The problem with that, is that cat scans, our current method of scanning the brain, is roughly half as fast as your brain.
Imagine if the entire world were running at half speed. It would be incredibly jarring and likely nauseating.

tl;dr, this shit's definitely possible, but I think 40 years isn't a bad estimation. 10 seems way too fast given what we'd need to do, what we'd need to test. 25 years is my guess. Then we can live with our waifus in legitimate virtual reality.
>>
>>135324127
>direct neural interface
>10 years away

Even 40 years seems overly optimistic.
>>
>>135325672
I think you are being a bit to short sighted. sure if it was suddenly a thing someone in a shed developed with cables into your brain that shit would be buried, but after years of people getting used to more invasive technologies, such as smartphones, glasses, contact lenses?, oculus which connect people to the internet and a gradual process in medicine from human scale surgeries to virus programming for healing powers and genetic modification of children to enhance intelligence whatever through dna modification, would warm people to having cell like electrodes which a artificially grown around sensory input nerves in order to allow for augmented and virtual reality.

first it will be "used to train soldiers in the army" then we can bring up the new world government's google server to find out how we should be living our life today on a mini screen in our minds.
>>
>>135326423

>>
>>135326374
We've actually had them since the late 90's, they just kinda suck. Turns out the brain isn't good at articulating a random and arbitrary set of foreign commands that translate into whatever input the device accepts.
>>
>>135326554

They can, and do train teenagers to drive flying cars. It's just rarer now because of increased insurance costs. Then you have the army training 22 year olds to drive their flying minivans to take other soldiers to soccer practice/mogadishu.

The problem with our current flying cars is the same as any flying cars, they're very expensive, and when they stop working, instead of puttering out on the shoulder, they fall out of the sky.

VR movies will probably be the next step
For the most part, they will just be environment replicating suits with VR gear attached
Actors will wear motion capture gear and go do things and then later people will strap on suits to pretend to go do those things
