If you complain about Gon being a sidekick, then there's no excuse with Crow. He was basically Yusei's sidekick and super special awesome best friend in 5ds. Arc-V at least have Crow have a better motivation and characterization than what Yoshida did for Crow. Not that Anon, but it is more noticeable with Yugo. When comparing Yugo to someone like Sora, who doesn't need his signature/ace card (Chimera) nearly as badly as Yugo needs Clear Wing. Even compared to Shun, he barely relies on Rise Falcon and the focus is far more on Revolution Falcon than anything.
Reiji certainly doesn't need to use his Hell Armageddons as much as Yugo does Clear Wing. The only ones who really rely on a single ace is those without many aces to begin with (e.g. Yuzu, Gongenzaka, Dennis, etc) whereas Yugo has several Speedroid Synchros he could be using.
A Level 9 or Level 10 Speedroid could have served as an alternate boss monster if Yugo didn't have access to Clear Wing.
