Basically a couple pages before Madarame said something about how "knowing they're doing something wrong is a great spice," and Hato started blowing him the fuck out asking if that's enough for him and that those feelings will fade eventually. Honestly, it takes way more balls to have the two male main characters of a non-BL work end up together. Can't think of any other work that's happened in besides maybe Prunus Girl.
This whole development still feels like an outlandish fanfic. Madarame "fell in love" with Hato looking like a cute girl. Unless Hato gets a gender change, Madarame will end up with a mouthful of dick sooner or later, which he has shown no inclination towards, so far. At least haven't noticed him rub one out or blush about male mode Hato. This "lol I fell in love with you, so gender doesn't matter" thing brings the whole faux realism thing that Genshiken had going crashing down, even more so than the initial harem situation.
