The show can't into character development. That's why the quirky girls that only appear once like pic related, the genki scientist and Claudia are great. Kirin is still the best though.

They were trying to fill a niche in the otaku market that didn't exist, or was already filled. They wanted to make a scifi, action, harem series and ended up creating something that was literally nothing more than the dry definitions of scifi, action, and harem.
Watch Bahamut next season instead.
It's literally the same thing as Asterisk, but executed a million of times better. And the art is leagues apart.
