is the Naruto anime any good? i just learned that it was made by one of my favorite studios so it piqued my interest. i know it has a reputation as 'le crappy popular shonen' but have any of you guys actually watched t? is it good?

Although it was sometimes padded out with silly anime-original stories, some of the battle scenes were really well-drawn.

I cried at the end of Rock Lee and Gaara's fight. It's kinda decent at first but it gets worse with every chapter. Watch or read it until you reach a point where you can't stand it anymore and leave without remorse.
It's terrible if you want anything related to ninjas. The characters might as well be saiyans.

The original anime was fairly close to the manga up until they ran out. So there are around 70 canon episodes and then there are fillers of varying levels of shittiness. I only managed to watch about 10 or so episodes of those before switching to manga.
And then I say shitty, I mean it. I managed to sit through all the fillers in Bleach, but these just made me drop the show.
The canon episodes are alright, but I felt like they were too drawn out. Like a chapter of manga being told over 3-5 episodes. Also, the quality level varies a lot from episode to episode. Some fights are really cool (Gaara vs Rock Lee, Saske vs Naruto in the Valley), while the minor ones are a bit lackluster and often re-use animation.
