I vastly prefer YuYuYu to Madoka and I absolutely agree, Madoka's storytelling is at the very least decent and the animation is spectacular, mostly because of the artstyle.

Clannad is okay, I enjoyed it, grew to like the characters after a few episodes. It was a fun 24 episodes with a few casual feel trips in the middle. 8/10 for my personal enjoyment. If you hate it already, you should probably give up. If you're thinking, "this is okay, but i have other stuff i could watch," I'd say to stick it out. The pacing doesn't get a lot faster, but once the characters get introduced it settles into actual plot arcs for the remainder of the episodes.
After Story was a 9.8/10 in my book. Something about the whole "family is not enough. hard work is not enough. love is not enough." themes really gets me. 24 episodes on "how to break a man," and I cried like a bitch for about half of them. Gives you just enough time to recover before dragging you back down with the MC. But it's worthless if you aren't invested in the characters' happiness, so you absolutely have to watch Clannad first.
Regardless, I think it's worth sticking out the first half of Clannad so you can get to the good stuff in the second half, and all of After Story. The payoff is pretty great.
