This show was garbage. I was more interested in the mini-stories than the actual mystery. What's so good about it?
>>
>>135094086
If you think the mystery is what was most important, then you missed the point of the show.
>>
>>135094259
This. It's one of the few anime I've seen that legitimately can be 2deep4u.

Vignettes is the word you're looking for. Weird that /a/ doesn't use that term yet insists on using cour over season.
>>

He's holding a broken bat and is called paranoia agent, so I just assumed it was edgy shit and I'm glad I skipped it.

You're the stupid one. I never said I didn't get it. I said it wasn't interesting.
>>
I was honestly pretty surprised with the direction this show took
I thought it would be "rest if you're overworked", but instead it went full "stop running away and work even harder". Is the the nihon spirit?
>>
>>135094443
Well, how this one lady with the split personality.
I wanted to know more about it, how she came to be that way, how it plays out.
I liked the characters, but it was a shit show overall.
They had a good setting, but elaborated on the wrong sides of the plot.
>>
>>135094521
I'm afraid OP won't get it if I used that term. I'm very understanding individual.
>>
>>135094521
> insists on using cour over season
Cour and season aren't synonyms. No one uses one over the other.

Also, why would we use vignettes just because we use cour?
>>
You are stupid that's all, I'm not gonna explain the fucking show here, google it. If you were criticizing execution it would be one thing, but you don't even seen to get the basics right. Must be the kind of person that thinks Twin Peaks is about Laura Palmer murder.

>>135094525
You are assuming too much. Don't try to hard or your brain will fry.
>>
>>135094424
First of all, as everyone in this thread has been saying, the stand alone episodes were really enjoyable. The show is more about watching the individuals affected by lil' slugger fight their fears than watching the police solve the mystery of the attacks.
>>
>>135094539
There's indeed something about not running away from your problems/yourself but I don't see how you interpreted the answer as being to work even harder.
And faking being attacked is not exactly a good way to rest. Tsukiko and the other characters were just digging themselves up deeper in lies and problems.
>>
>>135094086
Too deep for you.

>>135094086
I didn't really like it either, but that was more because of the episodic parts. Beginning was strong and I liked the ending. I just didn't like it as a whole.

It's almost the opposite of 2deep4u. People go into it ready to search for profound meaning at every turn and end up missing that it's best enjoyed as a black comedy most of the time.

It's controlled exposition. If it's elaborated too much it would lose its charm.

I wasn't assuming you were racist but that's an odd definition of black comedy unless you're taking it in the literal sense (black comedy, mexican comedy, asian comedy, etc. etc.)
>>
>>135095850
Not the anon you're replying to:

Basically you're too young to remember or just not from USA but "black comedy" was a thing before political correctness set in. You might also know its other name "black sitcom". Basically its a comedy show with all-black cast barring some recurring stars. It was one step above blackfacing and was pretty racist to laugh at know that I look back. Will Smith actually started off as a character in one of them, "Fresh Prince of Bel Air", which turned him from a standard rapper #8782 to Will Smith.

I don't know but it's just one of those stereotypical things which makes it possible for black people to do this kind of comedy, where they basically make fun of their stereotype (like being gangsters, liking chicken and these kind of stuff which are rascist)

I'll actually defend cour, because there isn't an English word that can take its place, at least not when season is already in use elsewhere.
>>
>>135099354
There is: Season
Season can easily refer to both.
A season (i.e. a period of running time) is different from a season (i.e. a run of a show)
>>
>>135099407
Using season to refer to two different units of a show is confusing as fuck, though, and it already gets weird sometimes with the four seasons and show's seasons. If we had it for all three, and you said S1 or last season of a show, you'd have confusion, and if you said something like "this season X is the best show" you'd have three possible meanings. There's a reason the nips started using two different words, and we mimic that not only because we're massive weeaboos, but also because it makes sense.
>>
>>135099514
Words can easily refer to multiple concepts at the same time.

>if you said something like "this season, X is the best show" you'd have three possible meanings
No, why?
"this season" implies that we talking about the time period, because there is no preposition like "of" following it. There is only one meaning for "X is the best show".

>There's a reason the nips started using two different words
Yes, because the french loanword "cours" existed in Japanese before the English loanword "season".
>>
>>135099638
> "this season" implies that we talking about the time period, because there is no preposition like "of" following it
You can easily refer to a season of a show without a preposition, and people do so colloquially all the time.

>Yes, because the french loanword "cours" existed in Japanese before the English loanword "season".
How is that an explanation for why they use two words? If it were that simple, they'd just use cour for everything.

Actually, if you know, I'd be interested in when season came into use.
>>
>>135099819
>You can easily refer to a season of a show without a preposition, and people do so colloquially all the time.
Not in the example you showed me.
>>
>>135099861
I don't think there's any way to resolve this, but I disagree and have heard people structure it like that plenty of times.
>>
>>135094086
>13 or so episodes
>4 of them are filler

yeah it was shit, but if i recall the creator got cancer and later died, so i assume it was not finished and the made it up from ep 8 as they went
>>
>>135099971
>I don't think there's any way to resolve this
There is a very easy way:
Give me an example where you can't tell from context alone which meaning of season is being used.
>>
>>135100023
That's not actually what I was talking about resolving, since I just gave you two examples that I stand by, and I'm beginning to think you're baiting me, but I'll bite anyway.
>I hope this is two seasons.
>When does the next season air?
>Is the season eleven episodes or twelve?
>S3 was the best, but S4 was the worst.
All could be very ambiguous if they were being asked about the right shows, especially when you're online and don't know the person and don't know whether they're clear on how many cours are in a show's season.
>>
>>135099998
>if i recall the creator got cancer and later died, so i assume it was not finished and the made it up from ep 8 as they went

The only time the terms cour and season are somewhat synonymous are for split cours that don't have an actual second season (such as Ufo's Fate stuff) but it doesn't really work for shows with two consecutive cours and/or second separately commissioned seasons.
>>
>>135100652
Don't tell me.
Show me that they are not.

>>135100178
None of those are ambiguous.
The third maybe, but you'd find the exact meaning with the context of the conversation.
>>
>>135100719
>>135100719
>none of those are ambiguous
How would you tell each of them apart?
>>
>>135100826
Context, it's about where you read those statements.
This is how languages with few words, like Japanese, work.
>>
>>135100959
I'm asking you to tell me which usage is in each of those and how you know.
>>
>>135100719
>Show me that they are not.
Well you wouldn't call the second cour of SnK its second season because that's what people call the actual second season that's coming out next year. So if you said 'I prefer the second season of SnK to its first' rather than 'I prefer the second cour', most people would wonder what the fuck you're talking about since the second season isn't out yet.
Yeah, in this case 'cour' is synomynous with 'half' but the point you're making is that 'season' can always be used interchangeably which just isn't the case.
>>
>>135099354
