There is magic, however it's not easy to learn and mages run out of juice pretty quick. Plus since this isn't a game there's nothing as convenient as "Magic Restoration Potion" or anything so when you run out of magic as a mage (the only person in the group who gets NO physical combat abilities) that's it you're out of the fight and probably can't fight for the rest of the day so your whole party would have to go home.
Mages have powerful spells that can change the flow of battle but they have to be careful and conserve their magic. This applies to priests as well, Manato learned that one the hard way.

Tabletop RPGs are a thing there too, and some of the biggest fantasy novels are adapted into japanese (LoTR, WoT, for example). Wizardry was big as fuck too, and plenty of clones of it are still made in Japan.
Remember that it's the country that made Record of Lodoss War, it's not even surprising that this all seems familiar, as their medieval/high fantasy influences come from the same place as the west.

That's how it works in this series, no stats, no HP, no levels. You die if you get stabbed in the vital parts or bleed too much and hitting someone in their sturdy armour won't do any damage unless you can cut through it, just like real life.

Speaking honestly, there is little SoL type stuff in this series from the parts I've read of the LN. The MC and his party fight goblins most of the time, though it does have some interesting comfy night scenes where the whole party is living in shared quarters because of how poor they are from being scrubs.

They can't remember that they are from another world. Whenever they try to remember anything from their past life the memory slips away from them. This memory loss also seems to be progressive towards integrating them into the new world as the MC even forgot the place that he first appeared in this new world.
It all feels very manipulative and sinister honestly, I worry that the end goal is that the people summoned to this world completely forget that they were ever not in this world.
In fact I currently have this theory that every human in Altana was summoned from the modern world but that anyone who's been there too long has forgotten. My current theory for why this is the case is that the humans of the fantasy world are using summoned amnesia people to fight the other races in their place so that they have an infinite supply of soldiers plucked from another world and forced to fight (because it's the only way to make a decent living). It might not be true, I honestly don't know but this is what I think is happening. Kidnapping people from another world and tricking them into fighting and dying for you.

I find the MC's role in combat to be quite unique for a main character in this series.
Unlike most MCs he actually does less than the rest of his party, usually only attacking once or twice per battle from behind while his party members handle the head to head confrontation and actual fighting. He's also useless when fighting alone as his class focuses on instant-kill attacks to the enemy's vitals that require an opening (like attacking from behind for a backstab or slitting the enemy's throat).

Except this isn't a game. To attack from behind you have to wait or the enemy to be open or they'll dodge you or turn and attack you. Also since it's not a game if you take a sword to the head you will die, instantly. On the plus side the term 'crit' means nothing where hitting your enemy in the heart will instantly kill them every time, no luck required just skill.

While all thieves can pull that off, it's only something that happens once in a dozen fights or so and they have zero control over. Otherwise, they either have to learn how to target the vitals by themselves (which is fucking hard against a constantly wary and moving target), stab the opponent's back until he finally dies or try to grapple him from behind and stab in the neck or eye. The fact that some enemies have armor or extra appendages that get in the way makes things even harder.
