Its boring shit but has nice music.

High production value absolute garbage. Criminally boring. Dead franchise.

Why don't you watch it and form your own opinion?

Boring as fuck

- Annoying characters, terrible yet still predictable plot twist at the end, loads of time is spent on a plot thread that goes nowhere.

this thread is dumb

Giant Robo is not just eye candy, it's style and substance working together in tandem. The animation and colors are beautiful, the soundtrack is perfect for the tone that it sets up. Everything is set up at the start to throw you into the action and understand what's going on with the conflict between the IPO and Big Fire, it's simple good guys vs bad guys with the unique characters of Yokoyama all standing on their own in the GR setting, zero meaningful references to manga to leave you confused so it all stands on its own. The plot's an Imagawa work so it's a little bit predictable, but like G Gundam it's heavily wuxia flavored, you're supposed to be sucked into this world and wonder what's up with the Shizuma Drives and this Bashtarl thing but not too hard because it's full of action with a diverse cast of characters who all have their own little tricks. The biggest flaw is the coming of age story with Daisaku feels disconnected from the flamboyancy of the rest of it so it's hard to relate and care about his problems. It's not like say, Eva to go back to Gunbuster, where all the action and world ending stuff is context for Shinji, the action is it's own thing and Daisaku's story is its own thing and their intersections feel unnatural

I wish everyone in this thread would die.

Giant Robo is not only a very good anime, it's also one of the few best anime ever and a great work of fiction in general.
>>

Good post Police Hana Gatchaman. I agree.
>>
Protip: Despite the name, it's not about giant robots. Its more about the ensemble cast of heroes and villains
>>
>>135066959
Big O is trash though, the second half completely ruined every single thing that made the first half good. Thanks, Americunts.

One of my favorite soundtracks but a mediocre show with a ton of loose ends. It's the same type of anime as JoJo or Ninja Scroll, dumb silly campy fun. Can't see it being above a 6 or 7/10. 3x3 fags hype it up because it's obscure.
>>
>>135070943
I think the loose ends are because of the problem faced with a lot of OVAs of the time. They planned to continue, but said plans went to hell for some reason or other

I don't think that's a good excuse, it's just a stupid dumb fun show you can watch with your friends or alone and laugh at, nothing more. If you genuinely think its one of the best the medium has to offer you need to watch more.

I don't know who is their, is it the poster I replied to or 3x3 shitters. Probably both

Regardless this thread is making poor evaluations of the OVA, like >>135071110 which tries to claim that Giant Robo is not one of the best because it's dumb apparently. All I hear is that it's dumb and boring
>>
>>135071266
I bet you think Kill la Kill is one of the best too. Just accept GR for what it is, don't act like its some kind of work of genius outside of the visuals and music.
>>135071324
>I don't know who is their, is it the poster
the 4 or 5 people who post it in every thread
>All I hear is that it's dumb and boring
I don't think it's boring but GR is definitely dumb, and yea it's pretty far from the best although I think it's a fun show. Your statements calling it a masterpiece are just as vague and meaningless as >>135062483.
>>
It's ok at best until the last two episodes or so. Those two are really good.

It's a thematically dense story on contrasts, soulfully told through Imagawa's exuberant direction. One of the medium's true gems.
>>
>>135071633
Sword Art Online is a thematically dense story on contrasts, soulfully told through Tomohiko's exuberant direction. One of the medium's true gems.

Do you understand how easy it is to make general statements like that about anything?
>>
Am I the only one who doesn't cut up a work into pieces and evaluate each of them for answering threads like this? I enjoyed watching Giant Robot but I couldn't explain what I thought on each individual part of it.
>>
>>135071499
I didn't call it a masterpiece or a pinnacle of anything, I said it combines style with substance. It's stylish and well animated and the substance is a decent enough story and character interactions to leave you thinking a little bit about what is going to happen next

The evaluations are poor because they're not really specific about anything aside from the characters being annoying
What is boring about it and why is it campy and dumb? Like, oh this is a dumb OVA because this girl can fight superhumans and jump out of planes but dies from a gunshot for dramatic effect, it's not internally consistent so it's just cheesy and cheap

It's not a thought provoking piece of media that really makes you think about your place in the world, but it's not a total mindless schlockfest. It's a good vs evil story and misunderstandings from well placed intentions with larger than life ridiculous character, that doesn't mean that it's stupid cheese with a nice coat of paint, you just need to be self aware about the setting and tone while viewing
>>
Wait there are people who don't like Giant Robo?

I've seen some catastrophically shit taste on this board before, but that takes the cake.
>>
>>135072504
The plot and characters were shit.
It just throws it all at you, expecting you to care without proper characterization or build up.
The only thing it had going for it was the animation and OST, which isn't really saying much.
>>
>>135072168
>it's not internally consistent so it's just cheesy and cheap
You said it yourself. The story is predictable and told in a way that is extremely easy to follow, the characters are simple, the superpowers are kept ambiguous. The substance is a bare minimum but the style is pretty high up there. It is a schlockfest, but one that works well enough to be enjoyable especially if you know what to expect. If someone goes into GR with the outlandishly high expectations these mindless 3x3fags have set no shit they aren't going to like it.

Right, I said it, nobody else did, the one giving an example for what should be said if you don't like it
I don't see why any of that is a problem personally, simplicity does not mean 'shit'. Layers do not automatically mean something is better than something more simple and straightforward and told well. I don't care for 3x3 retards either but if you're allowing them to influence you then there's a problem

Giant robo is legit the best anime I ever saw. Ok maybe the second best.
Still, I have never rewatched an anime as many times as this.
It is grandiose and memorable.

Also: lord Alberto is the baddest, mo fo to ever shoulder the role of anime antagonist.

I only recently watched it and I thought it was great. I can see why some people might not like it as it's both over dramatic almost like watching an opera, but also super cheezy at the same time, which might clash for some people. But I thought it managed to ride the line and balance the two and was both really over the top funny and awesome. Pretty objectively fantastic music though. My only complaint is they didn't make more and finish the whole plot.

But it actually isn't. Sword Art Online never has characters questioning the motives of other characters throughout the entire story, only to be completely wrong towards the end. You can't just compare it to a completely different product and go "see! You can do it with everything!".

If you are into /m/ stuff, you probably already watched it, but the /a/ crowd most likely be bored by it. This OVA may have some cool action, nice soundtrack, and characters; but the strange thing is that the overalll product is less than the individual parts.

The predictable and outdated plot doesn´t help much. You will hear the fans clamor the quantity of cool characters (especially the villains), but it doesn´t help much when the main character is pretty boring while the all other characters fight for a little screen time. In the end, none of the best characters has enough development.
